B.O.B vs Neil de Grasse Tyson

So apparently B.O.B. is now in a rap beef with Neil de Grasse Tyson and just released his first "diss" track because Mr. BOB believes the earth is flat so he sampled Neil out of context for his song.... Question is now will this escalate to Biggie/Tupac levels and will Neil release the astronomical equivalent to Hit'em Up.

Looks beautiful. I've never done the math on if this will finally disprove the retarded ass big bang theory or just force them to push timeline back by some billions of years. Probably the latter, but a lot of scientific support for the big bang falls apart if the time line isn't accurate.

Not sure why some christian god nonsense ended up becoming a legitimate scientific theory. The amount of magic that has to go into the early universe already is incredibly stupid. (We're talking the first billion years here, not just those first magical moments of conception.)

I think the hardest part to accept about the big bang, is that it makes sense up to the moment the "bang" happens. I feel pretty strongly that is is true to the best of our understanding, but it is really curious what happened "before" and why it happened when it did and not say 20, 30, 50 billion years ago.

I also like a lot of Lawrence Kraus's speeches about a universe from nothing. Super fascinating.

I will probably never be able to accept or comprehend the start of the universe. The entire something from nothing escapes my comprehension.

I think you can basically state that about the entire race. We can understand a lot of concepts mathematically, but when you try to conceptualize the time scales, speed and distance of the universe our minds can just never truly comprehend them.

Yea but I'll take "problems not yet ripe for solving" for 1000, alex: Answer: origin of the universe.

Lets throw a few trillion into propulsion tech and explore the solar system in a decent amount of time, and maybe get a probe up to a decent fraction of c, and then lets revisit esoteric questions that don't need answers right now.

Pretty much. More of a thought experiment than anything useful.

About as reasonable as you can be on the subject. The big bang theory just benefits from being one of those few theories where the bible is held up by a tiny modicum of alternatively explainable science. The only reason it has held up so long is because the science needed to disprove it is incrediblyincrediblyhard to gather, and it helps scientists sleep at night.

About every physicist agrees that "before" is a meaningless concept when applied to the big bang. It didn't just create matter, it created space AND time.

I'm partial to Sean Carroll's books. Makes those weird concept easier to understand.

(side note: Carroll is an Everettian. Which makes the universe even weirder)

Part of me hopes that any bigbang research helps us understand deeper levels of physics that will provide us with additional tools to maniulate our environment.

I get the whole "time" started with the big bang thing, question is always why then and not before.

Yea, antigrav would obviously aid in rocket propulsion...

Physics itself has changed its fundamental rules past the point where those fundamental rules needed to be different for the big bang. It's basically the scientific way of saying neener neener cant prove me wrong, and also means that it won't lead to new understanding of anything. Particle physics is where those new understandings will come from.

There are several theories on the how / why of the big bang.

More importantly, how the fuck do you equate the prominent theory for the formation of the universe to religion? And you basically know nothing on the subject, have no opinion, but want too discount the prevailing one cause bible?

You clowns have a thread dedicated to religion bashing, what caused the spill over?

Ukerric, are those lay man friendly?

The big bang theory was literally made by a priest because it was like the bible. They then changed it a bunch until it matched previously observed data close enough to justify that it could be true. Its terrible science thats popular becausejesus
