Green faggots did a real good job at stifling their use.

We had to source the plutonium for the last few missions that used them from Russia.

Mor importantly whatever that is is bullshit. Nuclear rockets are only twice as efficient as chemical ones so you aren't hitting 800kms.

It's km/h, not km/s. 800,000 km/s is over twice the speed of light. As far as getting that high, it's "possible" but not realistic. Some napkin math says that it would take about 15 years to accelerate to that speed, assuming the impulse is equivalent to other plasma engines.

Double Edit: ChatGPT math sucks. Content of BP's quote below is all wrong.

ChatGPT math, which I'm not going to check, says that in order to reach their targeted 500,000 km/h max speed over a Mars transit they'd have to accelerate at ~0.0175g for 10 days, then spend similar time decelerating. This would require 1,750 N thrust from the new engine, which is ~350x what current plasma technologies output. It's still within possible physics, but not close to current engineering.
Chatgpt is pretty bad at random math, I'd don't trust it. I asked it th name question and it gave me a retarded answer.

Said it would take 170 billion kilos of fuel for a nuclear rocket to hit 800000hm/h, which is 222kms with a 1kg payload.

I called out it's error then it said oh wait it's 724 billion kilos of fuel, and the said that was a lower value then 170 billion.

Fucking ai my ass.

Edit: Lol, I should have known better. I went back and checked and about halfway through it miscalculated a velocity figure by two orders of magnitude.

LLM's don't understand math because that's not what they are made for. They read text strings and make guesses based on text. They do not holistically evaluate numbers or anything like that.

You might as well give an example where it's actually wrong (yes, steps 1 and 2 should be reversed but the result is the same).

The error I referenced:

(138,888^2 = 1.93 x 10^8, not ^10)

Fair. The point is that LLM's don't actually parse equations they look at text strings and guess.
The problem isnt so much not being able to do straight forward math.

Its how it completely fails to realize the answer is bullshit and instead endlessly double downs with the utmost confidence.

Without brackets and parentheses that 50+50-25x0+2+2 is 104 multiplication & division before addition subtraction..going left to right ignoring the order of operations rules of mathematics that should be taught in the 2nd/3rd grade the answer would be 4. heck the answer could also be 300 if you ignore rules: 50+50-25=75 left side 0+2+2=4 right side; 75x4=300

I like how they react with "oh, yeah I see that now" when I tell them to go look at a link that proves they are wrong. They're kinda like women the more you think about it.

It is pretty weird that you can tell them "That is completely wrong" and they will be like "Oh yeah you're right" and then spit out the correct answer.

Correct. Now that I think about it my "women" analogy was way wrong. They will never spit out the correct answer after you point out they were wrong.

Anyone posting about the LLMs and how they compare to a woman's obstinance in the Astronomy thread will probably get fired because of AI by 2030.

Gotta admit, seeing one of those boosters coming back and landing never gets old.
