$370+tax for a 4k HDR tv ain't bad, its the S405 model though not the P605/P607 which does Dolby Vision and has better screen color repro. I think you'll be able to find an even better deal on black friday for the P607 at the low end, the Samsung MU8000 at the mid range, or the LG OLED B6 at the high end.

edit: apparently today only its another 15% so its actually $315+tax and you save 5% if you use a target redcard. pretty damn good price. amazon price matched it at $315 but its going in and out of stock i guess. You can order for target for in store pickup, not sure what happens if you just go into the store and buy. Make sure you get the 2017 model with HDR on the box, the 2016 model doesn't have it.

I've never heard of tcl until recently and assumed it was a shit brand. Is that not true?

I have an xbox one X and a ps4 pro (and a PC 1080ti + Rift) and think the X is just fine, I'm playing AC Origins and Forza 7 on it. The list of X enhanced games is small BUT it automatically does a shit load of stuff to 360 BC games to make them WAY better looking, to the point where the X version is BETTER than the PC version for stuff like Assassins Creed 1, the Mass Effects (without mods), etc. I want to play RDR but glad I waited for X, it looks WAY better on X than it did before on S.

Newer games seem better on the X for the most part, for example AC origins or Battlefront 2 runs at a slightly higher res and there are no FPS drops whereas PS4 Pro I guess has some FPS drops sometimes in MP but to be honest I've never noticed it. AC Origins only supported 4k HDR on X for a while, now I think its on PC and ps4.

End of the day I see it this way: if you are GONNA play on xbox, you should play on X. The stock versions of games on an xbox one S is almost always worse than the basic PS4 version, usually like 720p or 900p vs 1080p or framing/AA issues. If you can ONLY pick between an X or a PS4, go PS4 for exclusives. Pro is worse than X, but better than xbox one just because of exclusives. It doesn't matter how many fucking extra textures Gears of War 4 or Halo 5 have, I'd rather play Horizon Zero Dawn, Persona 5, Yakuza 0, Bloodborne, etc. I can rattle off 5-6 games I wanna play exclusive to PS4 in 2018 but really can't name one for X, i don't honestly give a shit about Pirates of the Sea or Crackdown and anyways I could play both on my PC anyways.

From a technical standpoint the X is FANTASTIC. Its very quiet, its solid and small (almost exact same size as One S which is amazing), and everything just runs faster and smoother on it than my previous one S. I'll probably buy future SP only games on the X, like Far Cry 5 and stuff. Not sure about multiplayer, I bought Battlefront 2 on PS4 but wish I was playing on X instead. The elite controller of X just blows away the regular dual shock 4 in feel and comfort. Its too bad the hardware and operating system group of Microsoft is sooooooo far ahead of the "we should really get some exclusive games for our console" group.

I'm expecting at E3 next year either Sony or Microsoft to announce a portable device or for Sony to announce the PS5.

Would highly recommend people trying out the PSVR somewhere before purchasing it if you don't know if you are very susceptible to motion sickness. I don't get sick from anything similar usually, but the PSVR breaks me. In RE7, I get to the house in the opening (less than 5 minutes) and I get sick. When I walk forwards in that game and look to the side I actually feel like I am pushed backwards in my head. Closest thing I can explain it with is that the feeling is similar to those carnival rides where the room spins really fast pushing you up against a wall. As long as you let yourself be pushed back, it's fine, but if you push your head forwards, you "feel" the spin and it is close to instant nausea.

Skyrim is a lot better though. Made it past the tutorial, but when I quit right after that I was kind of iffy. No way I could play it for hours on end.

However, if I didn't get motion sickness, I'd play any PSVR release over a non PSVR release even though it is a fairly significant graphical downgrade. Skyrim PSVR probably looks similar to that of the Switch.

That said, it is crazy immersive and safe to say it is beyond a momentary fad at this point. Once they increase the visual fidelity and in particular, slim down and lower cost of the required hardware (not tried Occulus or Vive) I can see it hitting the mainstream and VR versions becoming more standard with AAA releases that has first person. If you know you don't get motion sickness and you enjoy Skyrim, I'd easily recommend it again for the immersiveness alone even if it looks like dogshit compared to a modded PC version.

VR is definitely not for everyone, at least not at this point. I've had a Vive since release, and I can play it non-stop for hours without any negative effects (even modded games not originally meant for VR that don't use teleportation for movement). However, my girlfriend instantly experiences intense vertigo/nausea whenever she tries it. That said, I can't wait to try some of the current PSVR exclusives when they come to PC...

I'm just waiting for someone to make a VR + movie ride chair combo and then to make me a Coaster sim.

VR legs are a real thing. If you keep exposing yourself to VR a little bit each day and quit the second you start feeling weird you'll eventually realize the time it takes to get to that point takes longer and longer and then eventually it just stops.

I took me a while before I could play RE7 with all the comfort settings off for long periods of time but now nothing really makes me sick.

They are an American company that keeps prices low by being vertically integrated and making all their own parts. By all accounts the sets seem very good and I saw Engadget named one of them the best TV of 2017.

Yea, no shit - I saw the low attempt logo and genericish name of just initials and thought of them as something that was basically like the old Sorny Simpson's joke, but towards LG (or perhaps another highly rated acronym brand, only LG coming to mind ATM for TVs).

I think I actually passed on one with near identical specs to my new TV last year to the tune of about $150 more simply because I didn't recognize the brand to consider them as an equal.

Uh, TCL is and always has been a Chinese company. They do make good TVs though.

So umm...the ps4 pro does NOT play 4k disks?! What is this sorcery - I thought that was just the refreshed slim and the pro did have 4k disc... I get a Pro for 4k streaming? Wtfbbq

Mind you I am not a graphic perfectionist so most of the "more power" is not worth 200$ to me- I play games very, very little now- it's mostly to power my psvr

My WebOS LG has 4k Netflix and Hulu - so whatever

Having HDR really "does it" in terms of looking good etc on my 4k LG set - and the psVR I got is 2.0 and has HDR passthru.

Xboner goes into bedroom as the ps4 takes over the living room... next to the dusty (BUT WORKING!) Backwards compatible PS3 haha
