I never get the free promo emails and I even get their newsletter. Is there something else you need to sign up for too? I have a bunch of vr games, bought 2 from the sale last week actually.

I'm basically done with this gen, might grab some jrpg or whatever if they release only on PS4 but most of them nowadays release on PC too. I have an old brick noisy PS4 with its slow as fuck loading times and I just can't be bothered playing anything on it. At this point I just hope the PS5 is backward compatible so I'll just buy God of War/RDR2/Horizon Dawn in a few years to play on the PS5 instead. I'll put a SSD in this bitch if they don't launch with one too, loading times are so fucking bad on HDDs it makes playing everything a chore.

Bah, must not be for everyone unless you had to actually buy a PSVR game from PSN. I got a PSVR during the big sale last year and played some Skyrim, Until Dawn (PS+), and RE7 (disc) on it before deciding I hate VR in its current state. Would have been nice if they'd sent me one since Resonance of Fate is probably the last thing I'll buy digital this year and it finally showed up on the store this morning, and $35 is a bit much to ask for a minimal-effort remaster.

Hopefully the PS5 has a far better disk subsystem, even the Pro with SATA-3 is still bottlenecked to the point where a SSD is barely an upgrade over a SSHD.

I'm not looking forward to the jet engine volume of my PS4 Pro while I play RDR2.

I am sure you have tried this, but have you tried rebuilding your DB? Worked WONDERS for me on my old PS4.

Firstl power off your console.

To turn on the PS4 into Safe mode, Press and Hold down the power button on the front of the PS4, until the console beeps twice (once immediately, then another after a few seconds of holding)

Connect your Dual Shock remote via USB cable.
Press the PS button on the controller to pair devices.
Go to option “5. Rebuild Database” and press X
“The database will be rebuilt, it might take a few hours to rebuild the database” will be displayed, Select OK.
The screen will go blank whilst the Database is being rebuilt and this could take a few hours depending on the amount of saved content.
When the Rebuild has finished the console will return to the sign in screen.
The rebuild is now complete. None of your installed games or features will be affected, but inside your Database and memory will now be a lot cleaner.

I didn't try rebuilding the DB but that won't really help with the fact it's SATA2 with a shitty HDD in there to begin with. It's like if I install a game on my HDD on PC, it's gonna load like shit too. When I say like shit I don't necessarily mean 3mins of loading time, but 20+secs is already pretty fucking annoying when I'm used to playing everything on a SSD.

Ultimately there's only a few games I want to play anyway and I dont want to bother suffering through the shitty console just to play them, I don't care about them THAT much, they can wait a few years. Say RDR2 looks really neat, but I'm really not in this genre of games anymore, I played GTA Miami a lot but iirc I never bought GTA3 and bought GTA4 but never finished it, at some point I just stopped caring about these.

We'll see maybe they release some shit that's awesome and I'll want to play on consoles asap because it doesn't release on PC but for now not really, and I definitely don't want to spend money on a PS4 pro at this point.

Actually they are different resolutions but not by much. UHD is typical 16:9 at 3840x2160. 4k is 16:10 4096x2160. Only really matters in the non consumer world I suppose for local content sharing in businesses.
Something is wrong with your numbers I think, unless there are non-square pixels in there.

It's the difference between Cinema/Professional 4k and UHD (Consumer 4k). And really, just goes to the aspect ratio. Most if not all film is shot in true 4k HD with a 16:10 aspect ratio. (1.9:1)
While consumer 4k displays are 16:9. Hence the lower horizontal resolution. (1.78:1)

The math response was due to your use of 16:10 which is quite clearly not 1.9:1 and no one thinks you are actually talking about 3840 x 2400.

moderately lit room I guess?

Shouldn't be too much of a problem. Don't expect much HDR-wise either. Just try to buy it at a place with a good returns policy so you have a bit of time to judge for yourself. Do some basic searching for S405 alterntives or something too though before you purchase. There might be better options
