Yeah, I haven't had a Playstation since the PS2 and even then I waited until the slim model came out. I didn't get a 360 until 4 years ago but if I get a console this generation it will be the PS4...

I guess I just don't understand the fanboy shit for consoles. I did that crap when I was like 10 talking shit to friends.
Generally I wouldn't but when a company is going after consumer "rights" it feels natural to condemn them for it.

I guess it's sort of like politics that way to most of the people in the "normal" spectrum - lots of normal folks don't get worked up day to day over politics, but sometimes big no-no's occur that get them riled. Destroying renting/used/personal lending or sales etc. was enough for me to get riled personally.

I was looking forward to both being viable, that's absolutely my preference (especially since I know even as much as I loathe it - I will have extra money in my wallet sometime down the road and get an XBone as well) - but I personally just can't allow shit like they were trying to pull go without condemnation.

Hell, I was still ready to apologize and give them props (and likely a preorder) if they actually made the price in line with what you'd expect for something that's going to require a subscription fee for use (since literally the console won't work without Gold from all appearances right now) and is being so intrusive at mining data from you and restricting flexibility of product use. If it had been say a $300 announcement with $40 games I'd have been on board with it immediately.

Welcome to trophying! I like the trophy system more myself anyhow - actually shows completion percentage so you can tell the difference between someone who got all the easy achievements from 20 games versus one that maxed out a handful.

Also it has a "level up" mechanic like you should be familiar with from MMOing - L1 takes like one or two trophies if even that, once you start getting into the teens even platinuming a game gets you half a level at the most.

You need PS+ for multiplayer. The squareenix event was misleading on purpose. People here were fapping as if those two titles were PS4 only. Remember the outrage when it was posted that MS was paying developers not to mention the game was coming out for PS4? Sony pulled the same shit.

Sony was very vague on the DRM shit until the outrage over Xbone. They then made the plans super clear where it wasn't before.

I guess I just don't understand the fanboy shit for consoles. I did that crap when I was like 10 talking shit to friends.
Yeah, I think the PS+ needed for multiplayer is kind of lame(though I will probably have an active + account regardless, due to the constant free games). As for staying quiet about the DRM until now, it was clearly the smartest possible thing they could do, even if they had originally planned to fuck it up like MS. I agree that fanboys are retarded, but this isn't really a fanboy thing at this point. There are very clear missteps that MS has taken here and a large majority of the online gaming community is calling them out on it.

I've owned every console from every generation up until this one(I don't plan on getting a Wii-U). I don't really consider myself a fanboy of any one brand, but I will definitely not be an early adopter of an Xbox One, if I get one at all.

The PlayStation 4 won't have any DRM restrictions for Sony's first-party games, but third-party publishers will dictate their own DRM policies when releasing games on the platform, Sony America CEO Jack Tretton just said on GameTrailers.

"Well, I mean, we create the platform, we've certainly stated that our first-party games are not going to be doing that, but we welcome publishers and their business models to our platform," Tretton said. "There's gonna be free-to-play, there's gonna be every potential business model on there, and again, that's up to their relationship with the consumer, what do they think is going to put them in the best fit. We're not going to dictate that, we're gonna give them a platform to publish on.

"The DRM decision is going to have to be answered by the third parties, it's not something we're going to control, or dictate, or mandate, or implement," Tretton added.

This policy sounds similar to what exists on PlayStation 3 today - for example, EA notably implemented an Online Pass system as a method for limiting online access to secondhand purchasers. Publishers also have similar freedom on PCs, where consumers can choose to support games whose DRM policies they find appropriate.

Tretton received a standing ovation at yesterday's Sony E3 press conference after announcing that gamers would be able to share their games as they wished without worrying about licenses or 24-hour checks - policies adopted by the Xbox One that have proven fairly unpopular for Microsoft's platform. Today's comments seem to walk that announcement back somewhat, giving third-party publishers leverage to use their own copy protections on the platform; though the PS4 still won't have platform-wide restrictions like the aforementioned daily online checks.

We've reached out to Sony to clarify exactly what kinds of policies publishers will be able to implement on the PS4.

Any loser wanting to buy a PS3 now has already waited almost seven fucking years, what's 3 more months?
The same logic can be used to skip the PS3 altogether. Hell GTA5 on 360 too. Why buy ps3 for GTA5 if you already have a 360 with all your Xbox live friends?

TLoU comes out on friday too.

EDIT: Oh yeah. Miss 3 months of PS+ free games as well.

It'll be interesting to see how some games sell in the Fall. Personally, even at this point, any new game that I'd want to get will probably wait until I get the next console UNLESS it isn't going to be released on the new systems for some dumb reason.

This is significant. If you think the mega-publishers like EA won't have the exact same DRM restrictions(unique serial number that requires online verification at install, or something similar) on games that release for both platforms, you're crazy.

So basically the XBOX One is going to restrict 100% of games from being used twice, PS4 may be more like only 3/4 of them. Indie developers and smaller publishers might not jack with it, but you better believe the big boys will. Sucks all around for gamers.

Sony took a smart approach, they can basically push the blame off onto the publishers that take advantage of the system that they are providing for locking down used games, and it doesn't look like Sony is to blame in the matter. Very smart.

PS4 / PC seems the way to go yet again.

PS4 for console exclusives and PC for everything else. Hopefully most of those console exclusives will not have DRM (given sony first party games). PC... business as usual?

One is not REPLACEABLE AT ALL (external additions only) - PS4 I've seen no comment either way.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/06/...ble-upgradable

Additional details about the PlayStation 4 have begun to emerge following last night's announcements. In addition to be region-free, we've now learned that that the system's 500GB hard drive can be removed and upgraded. Sony Worldwide Studio Head, Shuhei Yoshida, confirmed the news via Twitter early this morning. The move gives the PS4 yet another advantage over the Xbox One, which makes the hard drive inaccessible to consumers.

What remains unclear, however, is whether the system will use a standard notebook hard drive, like the kind used by the PS3 or a proprietary storage format. We've reached out to Sony representatives for clarification.

I don't think he was being misleading because he said that it would work exactly as we were used to with the PS3. Stuff like online passes or needing an online account already exist.

If you can't see the difference between Microsoft enforcing DRM on everything vs Sony saying they won't have it on their games but 3rd party can optionally have it, then nothing I say will convince you. Just buy your XB One and be happy.

But it isn't that at all. They were implying any game that can be played on their system at all. They implied they were calling the shots. They are hands off if it isn't 1st party which means that if EA makes a game that will have crazy DRM because of the xbone then they are going to mirror it on the PS4 because they want to split the costs to make it worthwhile.
