I've yet to see the appeal of 3d yet. Maybe I just haven't seen it enough but the few times I have I preferred 2d.

Good. 3D is stupid and I wish it would go away like it did in the late 80's
Ding! Thank you.

Reports from playing Forza 5, even on the SA forums where they shill the shit out of everything, is horrible. Forza 4 looks better, plays better, the developer is now admitting they were completely rushed out of the door. (Shock) tThey don't even have reflections on cars.

The Something Awful Forums

That screenshot up the page a bit says it all.

And to get it to run at 1080p60, they had to disable all shadows, AA, and AF. Good luck Xboners.

It's not even close to the same shit technology from the 80's though. I just watched Pacific Rim in 3D at my brother's house on his 125" HD projector and it was pretty damn awesome.

So has anyone's Amazon pre-order of the console changed status from "Not yet shipped"? They should be shipping out today, but still no "Shipping soon" status.

Nope. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't ship till tomorrow and just give everyone next day shipping, even if they ordered 2 day shipping or had amazon prime or whatever.

Amazon is cray cray like that.

The difference in cost between 2day and overnight is pretty astronomical. I can't imagine Amazon wasting money if they don't have to, but I agree that they can definitely be cray cray.

Oh I know it's not the same tech (I remember Nightmare on Elm St. in 3D LOL), but I find it dumb. I had to see The Hobbit in 3D if I wanted to see the HFR version and it looked absolutely terrible. Never in my life have I had set pieces stick out like such a sore thumb.

I think the 2day is "release day shipping", meaning they'll do whatever they need to do to get it done. I remember it being a choice to select "release day shipping" on games for $0.01 before, but I haven't seen that option lately. I never even knew what kind of shipping they did for that, but I'm sure they lose money on each shipment.

They do it all the time dude. They don't care about costs. They really don't.

Same Old Amazon: All Sales, No Profit - Businessweek

Here once again is the familiar Amazon (AMZN) paradox: The e-commerce king from Seattle has made a habit of losing money of late-in three of four quarters over the last year-yet its stock price is near an all-time high, following a 35 percent jump over the last 12 months.

Now we have a fresh example of this living, breathing corporate contradiction. Amazon just posted a healthy $17.09 billion in net sales during its third quarter, a 24 percent jump compared with the same period a year ago. But the company lost 9? per share. This is what amounts for good news to Amazon shareholders: Analysts had predicted sales of $16.77 billion and accurately predicted that 9? loss.

Naturally, shares rose about 1.5 percent in after-hours trading.
Profits? Amazon Prefers Technology | MIT Technology Review

Why do some stores succeed while others fail? Retailers constantly struggle with this question, battling one another in ways that change with each generation. In the late 1800s, architects ruled. Successful merchants like Marshall Field created palaces of commerce that were so gorgeous shoppers rushed to come inside. In the early 1900s, mail order became the "killer app," with Sears Roebuck leading the way. Toward the end of the 20th century, ultra-efficient suburban discounters like Target and Walmart conquered all.

Now the tussles are fiercest in online retailing, where it's hard to tell if anyone is winning. Retailers as big as Walmart and as small as Tweezerman.com all maintain their own websites, catering to an explosion of customer demand. Retail e-commerce sales expanded 15 percent in the U.S in 2012-seven times as fast as traditional retail. But price competition is relentless, and profit margins are thin to nonexistent. It's easy to regard this $186 billion market as a poisoned prize: too big to ignore, too treacherous to pursue.

Even the most successful online retailer, Amazon.com, has a business model that leaves many people scratching their heads. Amazon is on track to ring up $75 billion in worldwide sales this year. Yet it often operates in the red; last quarter, Amazon posted a $41 million loss.Amazon's founder and chief executive officer, Jeff Bezos, is indifferent to short-term earnings, having once quipped that when the company achieved profitability for a brief stretch in 1995, "it was probably a mistake."

Look more closely at Bezos's company, though, and its strategy becomes clear. Amazon is constantly plowing cash back into its business. Its secretive advanced-research division, Lab 126, works on next-generation Kindles and other mobile devices. More broadly, Amazon spends heavily to create the most advanced warehouses, the smoothest customer-service channels, and other features that help it grab an ever-larger share of the market. As former Amazon manager Eugene Wei wrote in a recent blog post, "Amazon's core business model does generate a profit with most every transaction . The reason it isn't showing a profit is because it's undertaken a massive investment to support an even larger sales base."
Basically, they're willing to do just about anything to continue to grow their user base at the expense of anything and everything else. Hence the buy 2 get 1 free matching and why they'll probably just ship everything next day air starting late tonight.

Well they clearly lose money on any shipping since it's free on preorders. I just mean from a logistical standpoint, having something overnighted is often more than double 2day. I'm talking cost to Amazon, not what they show as "our" cost to ship.

Hodj, hey that works for me!

Yeah I'm saying they don't care about the cost to them for shipping. If it will grow their market share. Which, clearly, they're the biggest winners on the preordering consoles shit this time around. They've probably offloaded more of those fuckers than the entire rest of the competition combined, Best Buy, Gamestop, you name it. I bet Amazon is handing them their asses on this.

Plus when they ship in bulk like this, you can bet they get massive discounts from UPS.

Just think, the USPS is opening on Sundays in major cities to do deliveries JUST FOR AMAZON. They are big, and I am sure they get major shipping discounts.

Mine has been "Shipping Now" since yesterday afternoon, but I suspect that I was one of the first wave or two orders that got through when the promotion went live (my order time is listed as 9:00:13 am

). No actual shipping notification or tracking yet though.

I'm talking about the console itself, Yukiri. The 3 games delivered yesterday.

Using my tablet as a keyboard will be neat. App is downloaded.

Yeah, this is actually a really nice feature. Best thing about is that I can use my Android and Swype to type!

Pretty sure Amazon has a goal of being able to distribute anything and everything world wide within 1-2 days. They are driving hard for that.

doh, im not adequately caffienated yet this morning. My console is currently "Preparing for Shipment", and Ive apparently been charged already as well for it. If they can get that thing on the road today, there's a fair chance I might get it tomorrow which would be rather nice.

?Lego Marvel Super Heroes review (9/10, reviewed on current-gen)

*edit* also:

Hardware Test: PlayStation 4 Eurogamer.net

"There's some stand-out technology here for sure. Sony has handed in a high quality, traditionally console-sized box that runs a cutting-edge processor with bags of graphics power and has done so in a well-designed enclosure, that may not be ultra-cool, but dissipates heat well and remains fairly quiet in warm ambient temperatures...The only doubt we have here comes when the system is pushed to the limit - the extra 20W consumed by the UI in combination with the game sees fan noise increase significantly.

Other aspects of the kit - like the DualShock 4 and the PlayStation Camera - also fare well. The new controller feels sublime, to the point where Guerrilla Games felt comfortable enough to completely turn off auto-aim - a bit of a risk based on experience with current-gen controllers, but the DualShock 4 is more than up to the task. The Camera's facial recognition and voice control also proved decent. We're not looking at Kinect-level integration, but it's impressive nonetheless, and entirely optional.

Where the jury's still out is on the user interface. We've just not had anything like enough time to put it through its paces. With that said, while some of clunkiness in the PlayStation Store is a touch off-putting, there's a sense that everything is well organised and easy to find, with a rich vein of useful functionality. The fact that the proliferation of the PS3's download/install progress bars has now been reduced significantly can only be a good thing."
