That's because the casual gamer is not buying video game systems anymore. The only people buying CoD anymore are the new crop of video gaming kids/teenagers/bro's who play games all day.

Most people that made the Wii a success are not playing any video game system anymore. Console gaming is on the decline and it's only going faster.

That's what you've extrapolated from the PS4 selling 6 million consoles faster than any other console in history? That's an impressively shitty conclusion.

You mean with a growing population there are more people able to buy systems? No way.

It cost less when inflation is taken into account.

It will continue to sell but not at the speed it has been. If you want proof look at all the developers that are hurting badly now. Nobody is buying games like they used to. Piracy may play a role but the truth is that the majority of people just are not buying games like they used to.

Who would have thought PC would have another boom in gaming? Nobody 8 years ago... It's biggest games being F2P only hurts consoles more.

PS4 has sold more than 2:1 vs the PS2 in the same timeframe. That's over 100%. I don't think the earth's population doubled since 1999(in fact, it's not even remotely close). Inflation adjusted, the PS2 was about $19.00 more expensive, so that's pretty negligible. As for nobody buying games, tell that to Rockstar, who generated over 800 million in revenue in 24 hours with Grand Theft Auto V.

I love my PC. The best thing about it is how easy it was to use Google on it to look these things up.

I would buy a XBone if the command 'xbox turn on ps4' worked, just for the giggles.

Fun F2P stat of the day (of the other day really): On mobile phones, 0.15% of F2P games players account for 50% of the revenue. When your earning report looks like the one of a spammer, it's time for some soul searching.

Yet Call of Duty was down 19%... Using your advice.

But Cowen analyst Doug Creutz has warned investors that the declines could be notably worse than the reported 19 per cent dip would suggest.

"Upon further reflection, we think the [Call of Duty] numbers are a bit more troubling than they first appeared," said Creutz, reports
Name another game that did half of what Rockstar did in the past 6 months.

GTA 5 sold 25.7 million worldwide in 2013

Coming in at #2 is CoD Ghosts at 12.7 million...

You have one example. I work in the industry and see the proof every day.

You do realize the #2 game last year only became so because it's an FPS that also launched on a system that a majority of gamers use for FPS right (PC)? Not to mention its price was lowered soon after launch.

GTA5 was abnormal.

And? You don't need to move 12.7m or more units to be profitable in the industry. If you did, then the industry is already dead.

Well no shit. Do you look at numbers or are you just going by what you see when you take your walk into your local gamestop and chat up the neckbeards you call friends?

You're trying to say that development for consoles is coming to an end because it's not profitable anymore - which is just blatantly untrue, this isn't "my friends at Gamestop" (Protip: Not been in a Gamestop in nearly a year now - and the only "gaming friends" I really keep anymore is this forum) this is just me with my MSHRM understanding the basics of a profitable business. [Frankly I think even without it and basic econ from high school I would get it]...

The accurate thing to say is perhaps that it's "become more niche" (which is quite likely accurate, look at some of the recent "Greatest Hits" style titles all are pretty narrow in their appeal) with AAA publishing being much more diverse.

Especially with the hurdles to develop for the consoles being reduced with the newest iterations of the consoles the idea of them ignoring an entire extra demographic is extra laughable. Don't get me wrong, PC's are great - I love mine, and it's beefy as hell for what I do on it - but not all games are a best fit for my PC.

But sure, mindless megacorps like EA might start seeing consoles as not worth trying to throw together $500m+ budget games together if the markets constrict - but then again the hurdle to just doing cross platform development is pretty trivial and profitability shouldn't be hard to achieve with any level of installed base if the game isn't garbage.

[Also note of course that the PC always tends to resurge a bit during the last year or two of a console cycle - since PCs upgrade constantly versus at intervals its quite obvious to see why PCs are popular at the end of a cycle...]

Odds are what we'll see is LESS exclusive titles with PCs getting a larger amount of titles, but still not all. But then again, PCs have gotten a good hunk for years now.

I stopped reading after your first sentence because it's a straight up lie. Nowhere did I say it's coming to a complete end.

I meant it's dominance, excuse me for forgetting a single word - you're clearly trying to say its drawing down - and attempting to imply its significant. (Which as an outside observer it doesn't seem to be remotely - especially with the growth of indie games and consoles embracing them)

[And note, I've been in your position before decrying consoles as fading into oblivion many years ago when 3dFX was king and real 3D was a thing of PCs only as well as Everquest - things that were going to destroy consoles for good - I was quite wrong in my doomcrying, the console market only grew - and eventually consoles did those same things, and at times even better]

Is the industry really dying or are gamers tired of the mega publishers rehashed shit? That's the real question.

CLEARLY CONSOLES ARE DIEING !!!111!!!!

edit: Upon re-reading I think Kudos was actually being serious (ly retarded)

Definitely the second part, I think has a lot to do with pricing as well. EA with their 80 dollar fucking games has stopped me from buying most games all together that aren't on Steam and on sale(MMO's aside, because I'm a sucker). I only bought 3 games for my PS3 the entire time I have had it because of this(GTA 5, Bad Company 2 and The Last of Us). Then EA has the audacity to charge for premium? I think maybe people are tired of it.
