Honestly, I wish I had just waited on the PS4 purchase. I have no doubt I would have bought one eventually but probably when it had dropped to $299 and revision 2 of the console. The Blu-Ray drive spin-up sound annoys me. My PS3 is completely silent.
Odd - opposite experience on boot up noise for both (assuming a disc in the drive for each that is - both are silent with an empty drive). You might have an issue with your unit unless my two are atypical. (PS3's are one Slim, one Superslim I'm comparing to - don't have a Phat)

So i pre ordered Witcher3 on Ps4. First digital pre order. I get home at lunch to day and see i still need to DL a 10gig file. I thought this was a preload game. Do i have to change my settings to preload? I kept it in rest mode all night so that i would work !

My lunch break just got super boring.

I'm thinking about buying a controller for PC gaming. What's the leading general purpose controller? Ps4? PS3? Xbox360? XB1? something else?

xbox 360 with a wireless adapter is still the standard. Far as I'm aware there's still no wireless adapters for the xbox 1 controllers for PC (this may have changed recently I'm unsure)

360 controller or the PS4 controller. Personally I prefer the PS4 one but the 360 is also very good. I didn't care for the small changes to the One controller. Head to best buy and you can get hands on with the next gen ones.

DualShock 4 is vastly superior because the touchpad allows you to bind a bunch more shit to the controller compared to the competition. It's even better if you get a cheap Bluetooth dongle to go with it (assuming your mobo doesn't already have BT built in).

the advantage of the xbox controller is games will correctly display hint buttons, like on QTE shit. A few games can do it for the PS4 ds controller but most don't try. i would be careful of trying to use bluetooth with DS4, i dunno if its still true but before you had to install this shitty driver that would bluescreen me a lot and it had some shitty adware built in too i think. Wired DS4 works fine of course. Maybe Windows 10 will have better wireless support.

i had a wireless 360 for a long time, worked great. switched recently to wired xbox one, i like the big ass controller but it does cramp my hand more than DS4.

Xbox controller is superior solely because you can just plug it in and it works.

I'm not saying its a great controller, I'm saying its the most convenient and most prolific and just works, which is all you should want or need with a controller on the pc. 90% of the time you're not using it, the 10% of the time you do, you want the fucking thing to be as convenient as possible.

Rarely use it, but replaced my original wired 360 controller w/ an Xbox One controller for the reasons listed in the last couple of posts. It just works and games display the prompts for that controller. Will probably snag the wireless adapter when it releaseslater this year.

Unrelated, the digital TV tuner was released today and promptly sold out before I could snag one. Can stream it's signal to other devices and whatnot, has a 30 minute rewind buffer and at worst it's something we'd tinker with come football season for the nice OTA broadcasts rather than the compressed DirecTV feed. Toying with the idea of replacing DirecTV with OTA and a handful of services but things still have a ways to go.

Just got around to getting Spotify on my ps4 and its cool, but as soon as I loaded another app, it faded out. Was that all specific, as it was plex, or does it not allow it to multi task while playing games?

You can play it while playing games. Option to pause, skip etc.. Is in the ps button menu while it's running.

Yea, same happens with Hulu or any other media app - only app I've seen friendly with it is the headset app.
