Haven't bothered researching it a lot - news de jour. Wikipedia says she's done plenty. Her father owns schools etc. It's no coincidence she's a conduit. She did take literal bullets for being an active spokeswoman for the peaceful promotion of women's rights in a part of the world dominated by men with, at best, middle age world views, if not bronze age world views. What has she done? If she has done "plenty" then there should be no problem listing her notable achievements.

All she has done is give out a bunch of feel good interviews (after the western media has already anointed her the next St. Thomas Aquinas of the Muslim World) where she just dropped a bunch of cheap platitudes on us.

So far, the only achievement of hers that I'm aware of is getting shot in the face. I mean, come the fuck on here. I was shot at by the government forces too when I lived in USSR and I was a kid. Of people who lived anywhere but the Western world, who hasnt gotten shot at?

Its laughable. We are so desperate for role models and heroes from that side of the world, anyone just anyone who doesnt fucking hate us already that we will take any nobody and try to turn them into the Western icon.

Just watched a Vice documentary about the KKK vs. the Crips. KKK was protesting the renaming of a park, and the Crips were planning to counter with their own protest.

It rained on the day of the protest so the Crips didn't show up.

In principle I don't disagree. I don't want to rub it in their face though. AFAIK regarding US troops, not everyone has a real choice when escape from poverty, effective social security network, health care and citizenship are prizes to be had in this respect. It's not in my end of the world. We already have those things along with free education etc. Doing military service in my country truly is a choice and as such I do not compulsorily applaud troops. I understand why this might not be the case in the states.

I wonder why anyone would want to point fingers at this girl though. She did not get payed to promote education for girls in a country where this is not taken for granted. Taliban kills girls for going to school. That's fucked up. She promoted this anyway because it's right, education should not be denied anyone based on gender. She got wounded for doing this good deed. The wounds doesn't make her a hero. Her actions before this does. AFAIK she did have a choice, her parents are wealthy by their standards for starters. Continuing the work post injury makes her shine the brighter and helps awareness. It would be the same if she didn't have a choice, or publicity. The latter helps awareness. I don't think that's so bad, really. Nor do I see anything wrong in admiring her courage - 'Now do with me what you will' - and perhaps be somewhat inspired to do well be our fellow man.
