I had to research this. Apparently that type of rock retains fish/snail flavor well. This Chinese delicacy is call suodio.

theyre literally eating the biofilm - a layer of bacteria and other microbes that covers all submerged surfaces. There is no lower you can go down the food chain here on Earth.

I don't understand why humans have allowed this species to coexist with us for so long. So gross.
