Sixteen dungeons? That is pretty damn sad considering Skyrim or Oblivion have over 100. I guess it depends what they call a dungeon but that's pretty disappointing.

I realy like how in the beginning they said there would be open world/public dungeons too. Not hearing much about that these days...

Well I wouldn't go as far to register each dungeon in Skyrim individually, would be interested to see if those 16 dungeons are all unique, with each faction being so closed off from each other and the whole "play the other factions at max level" sounds like a knee jerk reaction to the bad publicity they were getting, I recon there will be a lot of reused content over each faction.

As I said it depends what they call a dungeon, but in both Skyrim and Oblivion there are a hell of a lot more than 16 of the huge multi level dungeons. One of the big drawcards for TESO for me was running those dungeons with my friends, racing other groups for nameds, PvPing in them.. If it's all just going to be instanced then that sucks.

Don't think of any part of this game as having anything to do with TES games as you know them. It's just a Hero Engine wow clone using the TES IP. It's going to follow the same formula you know from previous wow clones, with the only deviation being whatever they manage to fuck up beyond the recognition of even the most seasoned shit MMO players

32 dungeons. They're making the original 16 + 16 heroic versions of the same dungeons!!

Yes, my tongue is firmly planted in my cheek.

Edit: Just watched the video linked above. It obviously isn't reinventing the wheel but there's a few things that they're doing that I haven't seen in a while - costumes that change your reputation with various factions, 3 player faction system, all skills able to be unlocked by all classes at max level, etc. They'll at least get a box sale out of me.

For me I feel completely different - I have little or no desire to PvP or compete in uninstanced content in a TESO MMO. Mind you I am not sure I want traditionally instanced dungeons either, which brings to me the realization that I don't necessarily want a TESO MMO, I'd probably prefer a combination of TESO multiplayer with at most, MMO elements for towns and cities (the "massive" part I suppose).

Everyone will likely feel different on this, but I really do wonder if they are going to be able to manage expectations for this IP given its background and the broad range of tastes amongst gamers. My prediction is that it will truly satisfy few players because at its core it seems like a giant pile of design compromise.

Well the skill/class system combined with the combat system makes it not a total WOW clone. 4 Man dungeons doesn't either. Their PVP system probably breaks away from that.

The only thing I can think of that makes it a "WOW clone" is the inevitable quest driven leveling system. I have not seen any proof of these "dynamic events" or whatever they've got up their sleeves (if it's there). All I've seen from the published hands on accounts is normal quest stuff.

If it walks like a duck...

At this point in time one would even have to specify which age of WoW the copy is, Vanilla WoW and Cata have significant differences imo. The skill/Class aspect might count, reducing the dungeon group size by one certainly doesnt put them out of reach of being a cheap WoW knock-off. I wouldnt even say "but omgz its three factions not two!!11" counts as really different. Certainly not for TES IP where the single players games that build were something entirely different then the upcoming MMO.

I have to agree with Draegan a bit here; I can't left click to attack in Wow or Right click to block. I'm not sure about the targeting, but I think its positional with optional soft-targeting. Sure the underlying math is still DIKU I'm pretty sure, but I also can't viably dual-wield in robes and then switch to being a plate healer on the fly in WoW either. All that said, of course it will copy tons of things from WoW, but I wouldn't call it a total WoW clone.

I have played it after waiting in line for what felt like half the day (it was actually more like an hour).

Verdict : underwhelming.

The cinematic trailer hanging from the ceiling and blaring out across the show floor drew a lot of attention and was quite the eyegrabber even it it was ultimately the usual sort of stuff one expects from cinematic trailers (although certain elements were crossing that uncanny valley CGI/mocap boundary...but I digress)

I should have been clued in when the actual gameplay was confined to machines running inside an enclosed space in the back half of the booth. While in line you could see many trailers and such showing off the game but no actual people playing the game.

The game plays like Skyrim merged with a bad Korean MMO. It was very pretty but noticeably laggy running on the machines in their booth (never a good sign). It was fairly true to the Elder Scrolls overall thematic presentation in terms of minimalistic UI and whatnot, but I found myself rapidly more interested in looking at the background visuals rather than what my character was actually doing. To be perfectly honest I had more fun playing Neverwinter and Wildstar (which I initially thought was a joke considering how similar it is to the fake game inwww.trenchescomic.com) as well as some other freebie MMOs from other vendors whose names I dont even remember rather than Elder Scrolls.

I know the game is still somewhat early and not ready for prime time... but they have a lot of work to do I feel in order to make this something worth actually getting involved in for reasons other than second life stuff.

Ahh, interesting to hear your impression! How much time did they give you? Did you get to explore at all? Does it seem like it's quest hub driven, or could you wander and do what you want in the area you were in? How were the combat mechanics/animations? Thanks!

I just hope that when this game fails hard, it doesn't destroy the company and ruin their awesome single player games. At this point, they're the only games I even find enjoyable these days.

\/Bethesda and the Elder Scrolls/Fallout series, because that's where all the negativity will land, not on some no name child company. You're not even worth a real reply smart ass\/

Yea. Zenimax online is making Elder Scrolls Online. While Bethesda made Skyrim etc. I dont believe it will have a direct effect on Bethesda, but it could have some indirect effects. I personally think that Skyrim will have a shitty launch, be ill received and then Bethesda will try to band-aid the shit out of it.
