ninja unbanned here, too. And so is every exploiter in the guilds I met. Guess they went too far and pulled the trigger in fear of more bad press. Who knows.

I'm not home to check bank but I'm guessing it's all there. I'll know tomorrow but I don't see why not. What company removes item n unbans.

Edit finally got a reply lol
After reviewing all of the necessary information, we have verified that you have not done anything to constitute a violation. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this misplaced ban has caused you.

However, I am happy to tell you that the ban on your account has been lifted. There will be no disciplinary actions on your account and your remaining game time will be unaffected. We hope that from this point on, you continue to enjoy your time in Tamriel.

This ban wave is nowhere near as entertaining as the Anet one. Do these MMO's have poor database tools or something? Maybe I'm simplifying things but I would think it would be prudent to have a system to be able to backtrack every item, gold generated etc with ease so this kind of shit doesn't happen. Or is it just not practical?

It's probably less about the tools and more about priorities. Considering the bug had been around and reported for so long it's pretty clear it wasn't high on the list.

its usually not implemented or turned off during launch times, since the server stress becomes unmanageable - every database transaction turns from 1x send/receive to 2x or 3x or more and it has a 5x-10x impact on game performance. While its bad PR its simpler just to do shit like this, where you let hackers know you COULD do something but have it as a low priority. A month or two after launch your server loads have dropped by 30-80% as most people unsub, and at that point you start implementing tons of server side data integrity checks because hey, why not, you got all these server CPU cycles sitting idle now.

it also tends to be a unique PC problem, since its much rarer to find user-generated code running on consoles. Its fucked up, but basically its more profitable to just sorta ignore the problem at first, do some lame ass shit for the first month or two, and only then implement more robust anti cheat stuff down the road. The guys who always unsub after 30 days don't give a shit, and the people who are true believer faggots (blackwulf, rescorla, etc) will defend you no matter what.

final fantasy xiv is a great example, the relaunch had absolutely no data integrity checks and for the first month it was possible to literally do anything you want, from teleport to any point in the world to mutating your inventory (with just memory editing) so grey items became epics. They didn't do shit for a month, didn't really hurt them at all in the long term, they didn't even have the tools to ban the right people they just banned anyone who had more than X gold and undid most of that, just like this TESO banwave.

the EU "megaserver" just crashed. Sigh. I mean it's really a nice game, but the tech around the actual game, be it the launcher, zoning is just plain not very stable. After a maintenance or reboot everything is smooth but gets worse by the hour. From a players point of view, the "megaserver" concept sucks, sorry. The whole technical construct seems way to fragil under load.

Edit: crash -> 301 -> surprise maintenance. Good job!

So I've been playing casually and got a Nightblade to 20. I've tried a few different builds and find all of them fairly weak. One on one I'm okay, but one mishap and it's all over. Same with boss mobs of near level. Any suggestions regarding sorcerer or dragon knight? Looking for something a little more sustainable.

Those of us PvPing with us know we haven't really fought in Dawnbreaker since the first day of early access, we've mostly fought on Auriel's Bow. Now it's our official campaign. It was chosen because it's the most active campaign especially during Aus/SEA primetimes for our allies. When we started fighting on AB a week and a half ago AD was outnumbered but now that we've been pushing hard on it I think we have the upper hand.

So is with the revelation that Salty = Tyen... Is it true Tyen is in PDX, Tuco?

EQBrowser v2 Video - Everquest in Unity3d Webplayer : everquest

I see Tyen is pimping EQBrowser over on Reddit using SaltyPDX as his tag.
I don't know what PDX is.

I'd be surprised if Zenimax does not have a few heavy hitter database pros, especially with the way their technology is setup.

As far as backtracking, auditing is extremely resource heavy and not feasible with a large amount of concurrent sessions. Anyways, it shouldn't be needed, but generally the more you lean on coders to pretend to be database professionals, the more you get this kind of crap. It's why Blizzard with their professional database backend doesn't have these issues, but Arenanet, Funcom, etc do with their lack of investment in it, and poor design do despite being 'cutting edge'.

I keep looking for fun things to do, which led to perhaps my biggest disappointment in the game . . .

Just outside of Daggerfall (I can't remember the name of the zone), I was sitting on my horse at one end of a bridge. I noticed a group of NPC's walking toward me. Guards on patrol or some shit. My thought was basically to play a game called "Bowling for Tamriel" . . which basically consists of me riding my steed through a group of NPC's, knocking them over, dislodging their helms and hopefully killing the bastards. So I take off at a full gallop . . picking up speed . . . and I collide with the first NPC . . . which causes my horse to come to a complete stop! No carnage at all!

I'm still looking for something fun to do in this game . . .
