Yes, it's mostly just endemic of more general and typical issue of developers being completely tone-deaf to the population.
This. They stopped giving a shit what PC players, and MMO players in particular, want around May of last year. That's when the light bulb went off that this wasn't going to sell like WOW. That's when the suits decided to keep stringing PC players along as beta testers for console P2P. The game isn't terrible, but it has no soul. I fooled myself for a long time that Firor was going to continue to add functionality and depth to the PC version, but my eyes got opened in late December (or so?) when they announced that console release would be in June, and then promptly declared nothing new would be added until "console release settled down."

About what I thought.... just curious. They are one of the few games I never really gave a chance out of beta. It usually takes a game 30 days post release to disappoint me.
I got their email and didn't hesitate to click the delete button. I'm in the same boat you are, couldn't even make it through beta. I think the thing that sums up how I felt (and still feel) about the game are summed up by the fact that I skipped through the quest dialog from John Cleese. They made John Cleese boring. That's... I don't know what that is.

I've been hearing at work it was the best PvP game out right now so that is really what lead to my curiosity. In beta, I never really got to that as I was just trying to get a feel for the game itself. I still may try it for the 3 days just for the sake of saying I gave it a fair shake. I guess anyone could say that there has been several changes and beta isn't a true assessment of the current state of any game. I do miss having a MMO on hand to play casually. H1Z1 is really the only fun for me to be had at the moment but it's a different experience. I wish I could get into FFXIV but I simply get frustrated with my limited amount of time and I feel it needs more to be fun. Everything else is simply unplayable or boring at best (sorry WoW, I got bored).

There are no nameplates or ways to identify who your opponent is. So if you like running around doing faceless PVP on a giant static map. Go for it.

That sounds awful... I've seen this complaint more than just here and curious to why this has not been addressed. To me, that's just crazy.

Paul Sage's Ego is at stake.

Seriously... This is really the reason.

Team Sage: "We need nameplates"
Sage: "No. It's too much like World of Warcraft and we need to differentiate"
Team Sage: "??????"

And no one says anything, because they need to keep their job. And Paul Sage would need to admit he was wrong about something so trivial.

Why don't they just release the API so people could make an add-on for nameplates and then people who want it can use it?

Well, the nameplates have to be rendered at the engine level rather than the UI level (you can do it at the UI level but it's silly). But why can't they have an option that's off by default? Because having them on offers such a massive advantage that everyone who knows it exists will just have them on, defeating the purpose of it.

Nameplates is a losing battle I have tried to fight multiple times on the official forums going back to closed beta. For every one MMO vet who agrees that nameplates are an integral part of any MMO, there will be 3-4 hardcore TES single player fans who come back with the argument "Skyrim and Oblivion did not have nameplates so TESO does not need them". Every single major design decision in this game appears to be catering to that kind of gamer.

Pretty sure we don't even have the option of nameplates because Sage doesn't want SS or videos popping up all over with them. He A) thinks it makes the game look too much like WoW and B) doesn't want everyone to see that he was wrong and that nameplates are preferred.

So this game is still jank? That's what I've gathered from reading a few posts.

MMO drought sucks ass. Perhaps this genre is already dead and I just haven't accepted it yet.

That and the fucked up 'guild store' system was irritating.
It is irritating when you are used to a global auction house. They went with that approach as an anti-bot measure. End result is the design is annoying but it helps prevent botting, which can also be annoying. I've never been one to play the auction house game to make a profit but apparently those who do say when bots infest MMOs they drive down prices making it hard for legit players to make cash on the market. If true then the annoyance of the guild store is offset by not having to compete against bots trying to sell stuff.

In terms of bot prevalence: Valuation of in game currency matters more than what type of market system is available in my opinion.

ESO doesn't have bots because no one cares about the game enough to bot it.

lol @ the shitty auction house implementation being an anti-bot measure. I feel like there isn't a excuse for bad design you won't swallow and repeat, Resco.

ESO had some funny bots because the quests were so easy to bot.

Its been discussed numerous times on the forums about the guild store vs global AH from the start being an anti-bot measure. It has started up again recently due to the influx of new players from the B2P conversion.

Your refusal to acknowledge that because you don't like the game doesn't change the facts.

From those videos it doesn't look like their idea stopped the bots anyhow.

The bots disappeared from the game when they made changes that only allowed you to delete three characters per day and loot drops on the delve bosses to have something like a 24 hour timer before you could get loot from them again. I haven't seen the bot armies like in those videos in over 6+ months.

So nowadays you only see the 14 remaining players?
