So you found GW2 grindier than Lineage2, EQ, Aion, TERA, AOC ? I don't understand your point of view? Also, my casual play?
Grinding to me isn't just leveling to cap. It's also what it takes to get gear etc. GW2 requires an insane amount of grinding to make anything in the game. This is all because of the instanced resources and everyone gets some loot mechanic. So much more loot is dumped in the game because of this that they require you to farm a ton of mats to make stuff. There is no option of killing a boss and having what you want to drop. You must grind.

As for the casual comment. You didn't really play GW2 that much and I don't think you actually realize what a grind fest it is.

There are still far more grindy games than GW2 for gear. You haven't gotten anywhere near the enchant grinds people have to do for BiS.

My comment about being worth the box was just a response to Qwerty calling it wasted money.

As far as grindy goes, I wouldnt call GW2 that. But I doubt there is much agreement on what is a grind from an objective point of view, because things start being that grind when you arent actually having fun doing them. Most often when a mid- to longterm goal is approached with a "must have it now" attitude (GW2 legendaries, D2 lvl99, many "BiS" in many games that werent actually required). Before that the same activities are just "playing" and not "grinding".

I think I consider it a grind is because there just isn't a way around killing shit over and over. There isn't a chance of that back piece you want dropping from a mob. You have to kill shit and collect mats over and over and over.

I see the difference, but I the means are the same. Kill shit, take their stuff and either equip it outright or trade/smith/quest it into something you equip. As long as there's enough variety in the kill shit part of the equation things are fine imo. Camping stormfeather or quillmane, no fucking thanks, because there's shit to do at that location aside from said camp. If it was placed so that you can actively play while looking out for them either camp would've been fine with me.

Ya at least put them in a level appropriate place you can xp etc while looking for it. Not in a zone that has nothing for you.

But you didn't have to camp that. I'm playing EQ Mac and I'm camping lots of items and I'm planning it so that I do it while I'll still get XP. I got a bunch of hooded black cloaks from mistmoore and also made about 6 levels at the same time. Now I'm doing the same thing somewhere else.

I think those Stormfeather type mobs were supposed to be a little random bonus for a higher level player passing through a zone. I've seen stuff like that in the past and just killed it and out of the blue ended up with some uber item, that I didn't actually need, but I could just sell it for a good price.

Well you're right, planning it so you do it while you're still getting xp is good when you're dealing with already existing games. But we're talking about new games here so they can put a bit more thought into their content layout. I mean in my wish MMO the player power curve would be flat enough that people never roflstomp whole zones, but I doubt the industry dares to go away from +gooder now that GW2 kinda fell flat with it.

I agree with you regarding L2 and old EQ. Never Played TERA. In the middle game Aion gets pretty bad, but it's less grindy in the beginning. Present day EQ is WAY less grindy than GW2.

As to wether or not AoC is more grindy than GW2, I suppose it depends on your opinion on public quests. I personally find PQs to be more tedious than static quests, but there are a lot of people who think otherwise.

Anyway, my point it that while GW2 is not the grindiest MMO out there - it's still pretty bad compared to alot of games today.

I'm in the beta so I will have some legit beta leaks, assuming it's allowed, next time servers are up.

Unless there is something going on there amazing we aren't being shown, I can't imagine paying money for that. Maybe if it is free to play like Neverwinter I'll check it out for a week and give it a chance.

It's a poor video mainly because the guy who did it mostly showed the least interesting things about an mmo, character creation and the first 3 minutes of the starting area. Yawn. Plus its recorded with a ton of compression at very low quality.

Show me something outside of the starting area playing content that actually matters. And give me a high quality recording.
