Got an email from GMG earlier with 25% off. Good until Feb 3. They also had the Titanfall preorder 25% off a day or two ago.
I want to pull the gun on this because it makes the imperial edition like 60 bucks, but may wait till right before the coupon dies to see if any other deals come up.

Would be interesting to do a forum competition to guess the # of boxes sold in the first month and if it's published the # of active subs after 3 and 6 months.
Good idea. I'll bite.

30 days - 800k

3 month retention PC - 275k although they won't release the number separately and will include consoles to pump up the amount. Even this number will be inflated with plenty of subs cancelling but riding out remaining time.

6 months F2P conversion either happening or very close.

Skyrim did 20m and only 14% of that was on PC. Given the quality of TESO, general vibe and monthly fee I'd guess the number will be lower than Skyrim with the bulk of the sales coming up front and rather quickly falling after with terrible retention.

The PC numbers are gonna be minuscule in comparison to the console sales
I predicttonsof console sales, especially with not having to have PS+ to play this on the PS4 when it comes out. Oh wait, the console versions come out after the PC release right? NM then.

I'm curious to know if Utnayan was in one of the elite raiding guilds back in EQ1 days.

I started lurking on the old FoH site back when FoH took down Lady Vox for the first time. I was never in a raiding guild myself in EQ1 but enjoyed reading about all the drama and server politics that guilds like FoH, Afterlife, Legacy of Steel, etc were involved with. For the most part, each server had a dominant raiding guild, perhaps even two guilds, and the members of those guilds typically had the best gear possible. Being in a successful raiding guild sometimes had a social status associated with it and could affect your character's serverreputation, etc. In a nutshell, if you were in a successful raiding guild you were among the Top 1%ers of EQ1 players.

Instanced raiding in WoW pretty much killed a lot of the raiding guild dynamic that EQ1 had and AFAIK pretty much every MMO since WoW has copied WoW's design of instanced raiding. This also means no MMO has come close to replicating the server drama and server politics that EQ1 had. No MMO has provided the the ability for someone to acquire elite raid gear that only members of their guild could get.

The fact that Utnayan seems to crap on pretty much every MMO since WoW leads to me wonder if the innovation of instanced raiding has permanently damaged his ability to have fun in a MMO.

I went for it. I really wanted to wait based upon the poor word of mouth but since I can't seem to get into any kind of beta to save my life, along with the fact that I had a bunch of GMG dollars saved up, I decided to go ahead and take a chance on it. Worst case, it wouldn't be the first clunker I bought and then regretted. Not sure if I want the all-digital or the retail Imperial box, though.

Close but no cigar. You could not cockblock another guild from entering the same instance bro.
Hmm you certainly could fuck their raid nights by camping BWL entrance with a full guild(and also kill all the pubs doing UBRS). And then green dragons shit which weren't essential but pretty useful for AQ40 progression. And fucking with the AQ40 opening too by killing the farmers.

Only on the PVP servers and even then most of the raiding guilds were too busy in Naxx, MC, BWL or AQ40 to bother taking time to harass other guilds. I was Horde on one of the most popular PVP servers (Tichondrius) and I don't recall any server drama/politics anywhere close to the level it was in EQ1. What I do recall are threads on the old FOH board lamenting the good ole days of EQ1 where the top raiding guilds could cockblock other guilds.

I doubt they can fail. Look at SWTOR which will pretty much be an unmatched failure. The money they spent on that game was retarded.

But all the sudden due to micro transactions it's making more money then it ever has.

Couple that with it being one of the few MMOs on a console, I think they have a hit.

I agree. If SWToR became a success, this should as well. Console access will keep this alive just like micro transactions really helped keep SWToR going. You just have to find or build what your audience wants.

Im not sure they will get a ton of console players to shell out $15 monthly for this. Has any console game tried to do this with any success yet? Im not a console guy so I dont know but I cannot think of any.

You are missing the 800 pound gorilla: SWTOR was fun. The stories were fun. The classes, despite being weak, were fun. The game was fun. Companions were a hoot. It had a host of issues, but it sold well because generally people were enjoying the game. It continues to make money because there is entertainment value there.

As of right now, TESO is not fun. The design is far better than SWTOR, but really the only ones who care about design are the ultra neckbeards. I'm holding out hope they fix the early levels, add more hooks, really spend a good 6 weeks working on combat, and continue to upgrade the graphics to make this game 'fun'.

Most of the complaints in this thread are pretty much not about the team, game, design, or even graphics. They are that it's simply not entertaining right now to play this game.

SWTOR sold well because it was labeled as "Star Wars".
Elders Scrolls will sell just as well based on brand name alone.

If the game was even decent, people would not have left in droves like they did with SWTOR. How well do you think SWTOR would have done had it not been attached to one of the most recognizable movie franchises of all time? With a rabid fan base.

Worst case scenario, I'm expecting at least 1.2 million PC box sales in the first month. Probably closer to 1.8 million.
