I'm also not the biggest fan of KK donuts. This is local bullshittery, but I dig Bob's Donuts in SF. They're open 24/7 on one of the prime party streets and, unlike many things-SF, they just have normal donut flavors. They also have a McCheese-friendly donut simply titled "The Big Donut".

Cool thing about the big one is that it's only $8. And they'll dress it however you like once it's done. So you can split it between a few people and spend nothing.

There's an Amish bakery here that make donuts everyone here refers to as "crack donuts." They're the very best of the cake-style donut and the super sweet. They're bloody amazing. They have a maple-glaze/bacon one that is pure heaven.

You best be talking about Rise N Roll. The crack donut is like a powdered caramel cinnamon one. It is so damn good. I prefer their apple pie and the raspberry apple jam donuts.

Yup. Rise N Roll is the one I was talking about. There are only a few stores I think, and they're centered near here.

I live pretty close to DD headquarters, they're in Bridgewater, MA which is a few towns over - so like I said, we're in DD central here. I've grown up my whole life with that just being 'the place' you got donuts and coffee.

When I was a kid I used to love their donuts. I actually worked a brief stint at a DD in highschool, and the donuts were made every night/morning for the following day. There is a distinct quality difference from then until now. They still taste the same at a base level, the recipes didn't change, but the texture of them is way off. They used to feel like they were freshly cooked. They weren't overly soft, they had a bit of a crunch to the middle ring to them. The glaze also had a different, sweeter flavor.

Now when I buy donuts there, they're always really soft and feel smaller. Not a big fan.

Unfortunately, because of where I live, there's basically zero options for donuts outside of DD.

That was the weirdest thing about going to LA last year. The lack of DD was fine, but the weird part was the huge amount of independent donut shops. Living in New England my whole life it had never occurred to me that there would be lots of little donut shops if not for Dunkin.

That's how we roll in Texas, I don't think i've seen a Dunkin other than at the airport. All these little hole in the wall asian donuts outputting some good stuff, we also have a few hipster places with lines out the door even at 2am.

I went to Kansas City for work regularly for years and ate shitloads of BBQ, but the last time I was there I was running late so I skipped the free breakfast at the hotel and just stopped at a doughnut shop on the way to work. Had to wait like 3 minutes for the girl behind the counter to finish texting and get me a doughnut, but it was the best fucking doughnut I had ever had. It was bittersweet because all I could think of is all the trips I had made where I didn't get a LaMar's doughnut and that I would maybe never be back, but god damn was that a good doughnut.

I think I bashed Fractured Prune donuts a few years ago in this thread, but over the last 1.5 years I've really come to enjoy them. I'm still not a huge fan of cake donuts, which is all that Fractured Prune does, but they do have some delicious toppings and glazes. It's one of those places where you can customize your own donut. If you have one near you, definitely check it out.

I got roped into team lunch at Mellow Mushroom pizza for the first time in like 12 years. That place had the shittiest pizza dough.

STILL DOES. Fuck that place.

I don't even think that Lamar's is the best. There was a couple of others in the area I thought were/are better, but I won't turn down Lamars.

There was a place on Johnson Drive in Mission that I thought had closed, but now that I'm Googling it looks like the old man just got out of surgery but is still making donuts. But it's one of those places that I think might be husband & wife, where when they run out...they run out. Gotta get there early.

Fluffy Fresh Donuts - Mission, KS

Donut King on Armour/210 is good. Maybe not the best, but they do an UNGODLY volume on donuts. I like their apple fritters for the size (size of a plate) but otherwise I guess they're average.

Donut King - Kansas City, MO

A coworker lives up in Kearney and grabs donuts on her way into work occasionally. I never get up to Kearney, and never would have heard of Slivinkis otherwise. But they might be my favorite donut place now. Their apple fritters are 'regular donut' sized but they're fucking fantastic.

Speaking of apple fritters, I can avoid a lot of carbs but apple fritters are my weakness.

There aren't a lot of Kum & Go's in the KC Metro (that I know of), but I was in Springfield MO today for a service call. I got there early, needed to take a leak, so grabbed coffee and a fritter while I was there.

Place reminded me of a Quik Trip. Fritter tasted slightly better than a Quik Trip fritter. My assumption is that most of their food is on par with Quik Trip.

I did see some breakfast pizza and breakfast burritos, though.

Doctor said I've lost too much weight on keto, so I started eating carbs again. Which means Taco Bell is back on the menu!

So bummed I totally missed the Double Cheesy Gordita Crunch tho. That thing looked awesome.

Still starting slow(ish) with the carbs. That Triple Double Crunchwrap looks like way too many. So I just ordered a Double Decker Taco Supreme (with my perennial favorite add-on, a side of Spicy Ranch).

I love their pretzels with the beer cheese, that's about it.

Apple Fritters are my go to donut, I love when they are extremely fresh and still warm. Otherwise I just stick them in the microwave for like 30 seconds, so fucking good.

Only thing that beats a good apple fritter is a good cherry fritter.

Meijer (Midwest supermarket chain) makes AWESOME apple fritters for being a supermarket chain, if anyone has one near them and had never tried.

The best cherry fritter I know of is a mom and pop shop here in my small town, so I don't have any tips there.

Dunkin changed their oil in 2007 to eliminate trans fat, that’s probably when the quality suffered.

Apple Fritters are the best. Used to get giant ones from Shoppers Food Warehouse when I was a kid. They were rather perfect.
