A new El Pollo Loco opened less than 2 miles from work, and while I've had it a few times in the past, I am not very familiar with them. I realize it was a new store, so that always helps the experience, but this was by far the best fast food experience I've had in years. We ate in, so I've yet to experience the drive-thru, but I expect it to be just as good. Place was clean, busy but fast and orderly, food was amazing. And you get to see them cook up dozens of pieces of chicken right there in front of you. I don't eat that shit, but my coworker said that it was literally the best guac she has ever had that wasn't freshly made in her own kitchen.
The best part, however, was that I wanted a classic chicken burrito, which is $4.49 by itself, and the cashier mentioned that I could get a drink and some tortilla chips for just $5. Aside from the 4 for $4 thing at Wendy's, I don't know if I can think of a single other value meal that actually gives you that kind of value. Every other place, even my beloved Wendy's if you aren't doing the 4 for $4, the value meal is really not much different than just ordering all the items individually. You might save a few dimes, and that's about it. This was actually a good deal! I mean, assuming you think $4.49 for the burrito is a fair price, which might be stretching it a little, but you get my point.
Anyway, I can easily see myself swinging through that drive-thru a couple of times a week for lunch or on my way home and getting a decently filling meal for just 5 bucks. And with their app and/or doing their surveys, it can get even cheaper! Survey gives me $1 off of $5 or more purchase, so I should be able to use it on that combo even. Fuck yeah! Two thumbs high for El Pollo Loco!
