Isn't being under pressure to deliver food quickly and perfectly exactly what every chef on the planet does?
Isn't protecting and serving what every cop on the planet does?

If every chef was exactly as good as every other chef in every situation we wouldn't have superstars.

Not to mention, not every chef is competing for a big prize all the while being yelled at by Gordon Ramsay.

I agree a lot of the show is fabricated drama, but I also believe it's a real competition. Some of the contestants just suck, on top of the pressure already mentioned.

I went to the grocery store yesterday to pick up a bag of chips and some of Guy Fieri's salsa for lunch, and I did my standard look-but-don't-touch temptation walk by the baked goods. I noticed that there was a new flavor of Lofthouse Sugar Cookies out: Key Lime. I caved and ended up getting a 10 pack of those for lunch instead. Holy shit they were amazing! Only 3 actually made it home because I couldn't stop eating them in the car they were so good. Highly recommend A+++. They also have Watermelon flavor, which I'm not so sure about, but I'll probably do a pack of those next week just to see.

Serious question McCheese. I know you've lost a lot of weight and proclaim you don't binge eat on pizza rolls anymore, but that still sounds like a fat guy lunch. Is it a once in awhile type of thing or what?

Carbs to fuel my gym workouts. I had 1.3 pounds of ground turkey for dinner that day, so I balanced the carbs out with plenty of protein.

Once a week at least. I took a date to an Italian restaurant last month because they have one of those deals there where you can order 1 lasagna and get a free one to take home, which served as my second dinner after dropping her off.

Maggiano's? At least here they do that, and you choose from a list of 6+ different dishes, and the one you choose to take home, they box/bag and bring it to your table ready to go home with you.

Yep, Maggiano's. I love that place. I don't have a microwave so I don't even bother heating up the 2nd lasagna they give you, and it still tastes amazing.

Stay away from the egg plant parm. It was terrible. The spaghetti and meatballs were pretty good though.

I saw that Little Caesar's had a $5 lunch combo deal and tried it out today. It's 4 slices of their deep dish and a pepsi for $5. I have to say that that is an unhealthy amount of cheese and grease to sell as a single meal. If you go with the non-diet pepsi you're probably pushing 1800 calories. I ate 3 of the 4 slices and felt a little sick from excess grease. It was delicious but I don't know if I could have gotten the whole thing down without barfing. Maybe I am just being a pussy but my stomach is usually rock solid and that shit set me back.

I've never gotten anything besides lasagna.

*Edit* Little Caesar's Deep Dish is awesome, by the way. I love how the cheese melts into that black, crisp crust along the edges and how the grease pools in the middle. 10 dollars for a whole pizza and 2 diet cokes is a great deal; that might be my next cheat day!

They don't give the cooks any time to learn the recipes or get any experience in that kitchen prior to the first service, which is why it almost always fails. You have to know the recipe and the tools your working with (in this case the oven) to do it perfectly under pressure. They also throw whom the producers deem to be the weakest cooks on appetizers and meat for the first service (ensuring that the service starts of terribly and then the entrees are fucked, too). The teams don't get to decide who goes where, the producers do, and you know they're only concerned about creating the most drama through fuck ups as possible.

Also keep in mind that in a typical HK cast less than half of the contestants have any experience on the line. They have stay at home moms, recent culinary school graduates (culinary school absolutely does not prepare you for line work during a busy service), pastry chefs, etc. So not only do you have inexperienced people in there, you have an entirely new team of people who just met, don't know shit about the specific kitchen or the menu, production working actively against them and Ramsay going fucking nuts in the middle of everything.

The competition and the fuck ups are real, but the situation is manipulated to the greatest degree possible without scripting.

/end hell's kitchen derail

I just ate almost an entire family size box of cheez-its. It was glorious. There is cheez-it shrapnel everywhere.

Cheez-Its are great, but I find that I require a substantial amount of milk to eat a box of them. They're just so salty.
