I don't know that we'll ever reach digital consciousness. Alot of big brains think it is a quantum phenomenon and I'm leaning that way myself (not that I matter).

I like the guy in this interview, very smart, and he thinks minds are classical:

I don't know that he's given it as much thought as someone like Roger Penrose though.

I do like the asteroid-as-a-clearing-thing idea above though, I hadn't thought of that.

Susskind is pretty great if you can get used to his demeanor.

It's not a bad demeanor. It's just very yankee. His rhythm is different. It's abrupt rather than flowing.

We've been having a great discussion for 5 pages and then you toss out a "god damn Christians suck, amirite guys!?" non-sequitur completely out of nowhere.

Why is that?

No paradox here; not to a Christian anyway LoL Makes complete sense, like lock and key, bread and butter, Bert & Ernie, death and taxes, Tango & Cash etc etc etc

There's nothing out there because.... there's no need for there to be. God loved us most; before the angels, before the devils. Look up in the sky, and realize that that is all for US.

THAT is love. Imagine how He feels when He made all of this for us and WE reject him and say He doesn't even exist.

Why is that? Are you so insecure in your non-belief that you have to shoe horn it into every conversation? Not much different than TDS suffering liberals at this point. Oh that's right, most of those idiots are atheist as well. Hmmmm, weird.

I do agree with you about someone being insecure though.

You're always born at the wrong time. The Age of exploration would have been wonderful to live in (assuming you weren't a peasant because farming efficiency was sucking donkey dicks at the time and too many people had to be), but it's passed. And the Age of space is coming, but it will really kick off when we're old geezers and lift-off would break our bones.

So you're the one that actually reads a Vanessa post.

I like Vanessa. Probably wouldn't be friends IRL but she's an okay presence in this pub we call FoH. I like the 'diversity' she brings.

But since she's one of the guys, it means I am going to deliver jabs from time to time. I also like Christians... to a point. When the adults are talking and some Lumie-esque character comes in talking about how Jesus is a Magician, I have the same guttural reaction you had to my post. So I jabbed.

Understandable. Without a quote it just seemed like you were old man yelling at the sky wizard and I had forgotten about her contribution to the convo.

Why wait for retirement?! I mean that's pretty much what we're all doing in the GG and Politics threads already.

No you are confusing shitposting with yelling at clouds. Shitpsting requires a modicum of self awareness while yelling at clouds is more of a spontaneous activity. Not much of a difference but still there is one.

Completely reciprocated. I like you too but I don't like you enough to be friends... and that's okay. You're honest enough about it all to not be pleased with who I am and what I do, but you don't go full retard like many others here do and try to limit or (if they had their way) completely silence my worldview. I respect that about you and I know the feeling is mutual.

I liek all y'all even the more abrasive ones. Yeah sometime the scratches hurt when trying to hug, but it's a different sensation, a new experience and unique to each individual. in the end I hope we all walk away better for it.

So I was thinking about space travel stuff again, and I realized that the mass increase near C might not be a problem. Isn't the mass increase relative to an outside observer? So aboard the ship nothing was actually more massive meaning you could continue to keep accelerating at 1G with the same however-many watts of power needed.

If the mass increase is relative to the traveler, wouldn't you just eventually get squashed by the gravity field of the ship itself?

Internally, this manifests as time dilatation.

Accelation = ∆position/time = Force / Mass

You can either increase time (time dilation for the subject) or mass (for the observer). You can even reduce ∆position (that's when you get contraction, which is also a relativistic effect) instead.

Yes my understanding is the mass increase is observed by the outside universe, not apparent to the person in their own inertial frame. Same for time dilation and other relativistic effects.

My understanding is mostly from science fiction though so I could be wrong.
