BBC to significantly cut Chris Evans' Top Gear role - Car Keys

The people have spoken and the BBC apparently is finally giving them what they want: much less Chris Evans, much more Chris Harris.

According to the Telegraph, Top Gear host Evans will have his role in presenting the motoring show significantly dialled back after viewing figures for last Sunday?s episode reached a new low.

The third episode, the first to fully feature motoring journalist and prominent YouTuber Harris, received the most positive reviews yet but was watched live by just 2.37 million viewers.

I'm amazed Clarkson and the others aren't rubbing this in BBC's face on Twitter and whatnot. I understand May and Hammond still do things on BBC, but with all the money they are making with Amazon, should they really care about snubbing BBC?

They've now entered stage 2. Change the chemistry and see if that fixes the problem.

In truth I did like the segments with 'new' Chris and Rory, and giving them more screen time can help. Just that it might became a situation where there's too many faces.

Clarkson has also been on the BBC since. He was guest presenter on a show (Have I Got News for You) built around the personality of the host who was sacked for bad behaviour years ago so they didn't replace him and just had guests! The celebrity comedian contestants made fun of him and kept referencing Chris Evans, which is kinda the point of the show nowadays.

When I heard all the rumors about who they were casting to be part of this show, I thought a larger, ensemble style cast made sense. I can't understand for the life of me why they thought they should make separate, mini-shows, when they needed to make sure the main product came back strong after this big change. Making a secondary add-on show would have made sense 3-5 years ago during Top Gear's peak, but that's just diluting the brand now.

I still don't hate the main show, but it's frustrating seeing how much better it could be if they just combined all 4 guys into one show. Let them do the challenges together and build some chemistry, rather then a rotating cast of new celebrities each week.

Is the black guy Chris Harris? Because he's great and I really like his Youtube videos. Only real problem I can see with him is he's never really come across as someone suited for the comedic type stuff that the old trio was so good at. However, if you want some someone who knows what they're talking about (and good at presenting) along with being a damn good driver, he's the man for the job. I'd honestly pay to see him and Leno do a weekly show together.

I admittedly have not watched a single second of the new Top Gear, and probably won't unless this thread turns its opinion around as a whole.

No, Chris Harris is the olive skinned buzz cut guy. Rory Reid is the black guy. I like Chris Harris as well, moreso then Chris Evans anyway, but I like Rory the most. I'm glad to see them pulling back Evans role, but surprised they went with just him and not Rory Reid as well.

Anyone else wonder if Sabine is actually the new Stig and possibly has been for awhile? With that thick racing suit and a sports bra, they can easily hide the fact it's a woman behind the wheel. She's too good of a driver to be involved with the show and not take over that duty. Why have two expert drivers on staff?

i cant speak for this new top gear abomination, but the american top gear has the stig and one of the hosts is tanner faust a professional race car driver. so yeah having two racers is not unheard of in the top gear universe.
on another note, i was curious if the guy that got jeremy fired was still on the show. nope, he left afterwards with 6 months pay and chris evans offered to hire him on this new top gear. this guy decided that he is now suing clarkson for racial harrassment because irish is a race and hes suing the bbc. this fucking guy.

Also to consider is that the Stig coaches the celeb drivers who are doing the star in a reasonably priced car.

So the cat would be out of the bag pretty quick when they heard the Stig talking in a female German accent.

Yea, they all sign NDAs to not release any information about the Stig. You think he coaches them in the helmet the whole time? It wouldn't matter the accent, they'd all be instructed to refer to the stig as a 'he' and not to mention any distinguishing characteristics. I mean, do we know if previous Stigs were American, English, Italian, etc..? Except for the one that voluntarily told people he had been the Stig, we don't know who they have been most of the time.

I also bet Tanner is sometimes the Stig on the American Top Gear. I think they rotate who is playing the Stig quite often, and Tanner has filled in for testing cars as the Stig quite a bit.

Again I found the two car review guys ( new Chris and Rory ) to be the better part of the show.

The cross Europe drive / race seemed like they got their wires crossed in the planning. It used to be Clarkson in one really good car and the other two in public transport. This time it was one Eddie Jordan in the public transport and then the other 3 each bought a moderately priced car. There were episodes in the past with cheap cars, which were good episodes. But that didn't seem to suit a cross Europe race, in a modestly priced car. The cheap cars would fail quite often, but these cars all worked fine . . . so it defeated any challenge from that aspect.

I can understand that they didn't want to just straight repeat the old formula of how it was done. But this was too much of a mix of ideas.

I just watched the first 4 episodes. It's not bad, but they definitely don't have the chemistry of the previous team. I'm looking forward to The Grand Tour for that reason. My favorite 3 of this show are the black dude, Joey & the guy that drives the really high end cars. He's a great addition. I enjoyed watching the Aston Marton Vulcan section of the last episode. That blonde english guy (one of the mains) is a real bitch. I dislike his voice, and that scream thing he always does.
