It would be pointless to show that because it wouldn't be believable in this particular story world. While the above makes sense from a "human logic" perspective, this fungus beat major military powers with far more technologically advanced gear. So showing a rag tag bunch of survivors auto winning with coveralls and duct tape would be a huge "WTF?". Because if it was that simple to prevent a bite how the fuck did the world get to this state?

Anyway, zombiepocalypses are always going to have plot holes and require the suspension of disbelief so, meh.

In this world humans are in constant contact with the infected but cannot make the mental leap that protecting yourselves from being bitten or scratched should be THE MOST IMPORANT THING since humans get turned if they are bitten or scratched. That is suspension of disbelief beyond reason and reminds me of the GEICO horror commercial spoof where the guy tells everyone to avoid getting in the running car to go hide behind the wall of chainsaws.

There is a significant time jump between the two games, correct? I have not played part 2 and do not plan to, but I am curious if the series could progress towards it and hopefully avoid reaching that point.
5years? joel is older and ellie is uglier

I mean... fully kevlared up military personnel weren't safe from it. That's why this particular world ended. You're thinking in the context of the real, actual world, rather than this made up world where a fungus actually destroyed society and toppled world order in spite of all the tools we have at our disposal

The worst part about this show, which is also the worst part of The Walking Dead, is that they never ever show human intelligence vs. the major threat. Every single time the infected (or zombies) show up, someone gets bitten in the struggle. There is never a point where the humans show strategy, intelligence, or pack hunting behavior that made our squishy species the apex predators on the planet.

Body armor, thick coveralls, boots, gloves, duct tape at all joints, and Phalanx pushes to clear places. Not once, not ever. It shows how bad the writing is in all of these shows/games/books is and why the movie version of World War Z was so disappointing since the book took all of these notions very seriously.

"Fully kevlared" still has weak points that a bite could get through. It's designed to stop long distance ballistics. Hand to hand is a different animal.

Ahh here we go, we missed you. You're right. A trip to the local Tractor Supply for some Carhartts and some tape woulda served everyone better than Military Hardware... Air Strikes... Armored Vehicles... etc.

Does not matter. Everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE, is going to bail once Gigantor tees off at the Par 4. There is zero way to make that character resonate with wider audiences, especially since as was pointed out we got fuck all of background on what the Fireflies were actually up to. Who would they even cast? And we are going to get more infected _now_ for Gigantor and pals? The cynic in me says its purely to show Gigantor ripping them apart with bare hands like in the game, which will be even more retarded in live action.

Short version is HBO fucked up on two fronts. First, they let Druckmann take a correcting pencil to things and insert a bunch of virtue signal alphabet people bullshit that had zero impact on the main story. We should have gotten Bill, Elly, and Joel developing a bond while struggling to get a working car and fighting off infected at a school, but instead we got The Bear Bridges of Madison Country starring Gay Ron Swanson. The Left Behind shit should have been a few small flashback clips inserted into the main series or just ditched entirely. Riley was a shitty character and shitty person, existing solely to let Druckmann have Ellie be gay. It was shit in the game and it was even worse in the show. When the show was on point, it was when it stuck to the fucking source material. And the Sri Lanka and news show bits to flesh out the origin, but those clearly were from the show runner (felt a lot like his work on Chernobyl) which is probably why they added to the story.

Second, they tried to do this on the cheap and everything good got rushed. The first game IS the only worthwhile part of this IP and even Suckmann has to know this. It either needed to be two seasons or a 20 episode first season to build up to everything. HBO, bleeding money, cheaped out and we got nine episodes, two of which were Druckmann jerking himself off to his own virtue signaling that ate limited time with no real contribution to the story. If they had put some real money and effort behind it and greenlighted a longer series run for the original game storyline, this would have been epic. Instead its merely good with obvious flaws and clearly wasted potential. This show will die with Joel.

This is exactly right. Stopped before watching the DLC gay mall episode, and can't summon the motivation to finish this, especially knowing where they're going with season 2 and knowing I won't bother with it. I expect viewership to fall off a cliff when they take Joel out of the show.

Well the early days of the infection seemed to have caught everyone off guard. Probably a whole lot of people were using improper technique at first

But yes. Military gear armors the bulky parts of the body while leaving freedom of articulation at the joints. Particularly generally leaves the lower face / neck a little exposed. Ideal protection against zombies would be the sorts of suits that dog trainers use. Clearly...

I was one of the few always fine with Ellie. It was pretty clear in the interviews she is decently smart and the annoying shit was intentional character. I didn't like they gave a whole episode to gay fungal mall but whatever what is done is done. I think people quickly forget not only how annoying teens are but how annoying teens are these days. They are like Liberals.

The point OU Ariakas OU Ariakas was making is that it's stupid for people to go out wearing fucking T Shirts..............

You want to go around in circles about how we need to suspend our belief because of the fact that in-universe military personnel got fucked? Well that's on you

The impression I've gotten from this thread is that the show followed the game plot pretty well?

If that's the case, am I just missing something? I heard for years that the story was phenomenal. The show was...passable. It didn't blow my socks off. So did they leave some stuff out that develops the characters or story more? Or was it just over hyped?

Edit: Posted this after only reading a few posts from the finale. Seems like this was sort of addressed by a few people, in that it absolutely was a failure of an adaptation. At least, I think.

Follows the plot points well but left out a lot of the actual action that occurred between each plot point, is the main complaint

Did you watch closely? The species is full of faggots and not worth saving.

I think the problem revolved around "what" they chose to concentrate on for a show having 8 episodes. Instead of actually following Joel and Ellie throughout the world as they traversed west, they side quested two episodes and thus took away from the story most everyone watching, actually wanted to see. This was of course Woke/politically motivated. The two stories would have been fine if there had been 20+ episodes in the season for the first video game. They could have also just used quick flashbacks, or a summation through explanation as the main plot unfolded. The show did a descent job. It just was not what most people had wanted to see for a story arc that revolved around the end of days via fungus zombies.(Or in this show's case, the lack thereof)

Acceptable is going to be relativistic. If we place ourselves in the position of the main character, then how we view it will be different than a dispassionate and completely neutral 3rd party

Probably not going to get around to watching this, but I liked the story in the games. The TLOU1 endgame really puts people on the spot in a "what would you do in this scenario" way. TLOU2 (which I thought had a good story, unlike most people) does this as well in different places. Makes you wonder who the baddies are on a pretty regular basis because everyone could be in that story, it's relativistic.

I'm hoping that S2 is one and done like S1 and they prioritize quality in the storytelling with minimal filler. Cause I have a feeling that S2 is gonna be like 3 seasons long and S1 was just here to get people on board for the real show which is TLOU2.
