why are they being coy about it, i mean if they are trying to continue the coverup, they would say, no it wasnt a UFO. there must be blatant evidence of this event and so they are being purposefullly vague to cover their asses. or they just dont know what the fuck is going on and have no way of checking it out one way or the other. I'm going with incompetence and they probably dont care. even if its china flying drones, this usurper in chief welcomes them.

I feel like there is someone like me in that position, because that's what I'd do. "Oh, you guys saw a UFO? Yeah, I'm aware of the event. We're looking into it. Until then, no comment." All while knowing that it isn't a UFO, just to fuck with them. I'd probably even have subordinates tasked with reading all those shitty sites and see how quickly the conspiracy theories spread. I'd probably also hire the Wendy's twatter guy to help me craft vaguely suspicious tweets when things were slow, just to keep my funding coming in.

Nobody is that imaginitive in government. I'm sure they know its not a UFO, but at the same time it could actually be some weird unknown shit. Since they "know" its not a real UFO its not worth their time to look into it at all. Its like if somebody told you they had a threesome with hot chicks last night and the guy is a big fat loser. You already know that can never happen so you dont even consider it. Meanwhile it may also be somewhat true if he got some escorts or got some hot chicks stoned .

I think this is the model for alot of things, going back decades. Not just government but academia as well.

it probably goes back much further. 500 years ago. the modern world "knew" that the Earth was flat and that Colombus was just going to sail off the end of the world. Colombus himself thought the world was round, but he "knew" he would skip right over to the other side to India.

Hmmm, no. Everyone knew that Earth was round. It was known since the Greeks, and pretty much canonically accepted. Flat Earth is a modern movement that based itself on a few allegorical illustrations, like the famous Flammarion engraving (which depicts the end of the quest for knowledge, not someone finding the border of Earth).

Most of Columbus' critics were concerned about the length of the trip, based on Earth's circumference, which Columbus himself vastly understated (voluntarily) in order to get financing from the Crown.
