Frighteners is another underrated movie. That one goes from silly creepy to legitimately creepy in a very stealthy manner. Or, at least, that is how I remember it.
haha special effects wise it has NOT aged well. Practical effects are not bad, because if done well they hold up. I don't know about the rest of the movie except storywise it is not bad, elevated a bit by the leads and some of the supporting actors. Some of the actors, the black dude and the lead actress whatever her name is, are super cringe. Also, one of the last roles for the OG Gomez Addams, John Astin.

It wasn't until watching this review that I realized I've apparently merged Event Horizon and Sphere in my head as a singular movie. And I'm not sure which one I liked. Maybe it was both?

I should revisit Frighteners. I remember we snuck into it back in the day, but all my friends wanted to bounce and go skate. So we did. Back to the Future being my favorite movie, I was drawn to it because of Fox. I really wanted to stay to watch it but they really weren't feeling it. Never really thought about trying to watch it again.

it was exec produced by bob zemeckis. its an interesting movie if anything. Fox plays it like Marty had his life take a really bad turn.

Sphere had Dennis Hoffman, the helium, rats in breathable liquid shit and the "we can forget" bullshit at the end. Literally don't remember anything else. It certainly didn't have any torture porn or space horror.

Wait, was that the Abyss? /s

I never saw sphere, but Abyss had breathable liquid with rats and ed harris. Event Horizon is an interesting premise hampered by a moderate talent behind the camera which extends to the actors and their performances onscreen and some seriously bad 90's effects.

There's an extended cut of The Frighteners out there. Haven't seen it in a few years, but I think it adds quite a bit to the runtime. Flesh's out Frank and the ghosts a bit more, and maybe some of the other characters. Make sure to find that version.

I remember seeing the original at theater when it came out, and at the time the special effects were pretty amazing. It's just a fun movie, and even though the effects are a little dated today, it's still just as enjoyable.

Sphere is a bit of a strange book. It goes from undersea shenanigans to just some meta-Psycho stuff in the habitat and then just ends with the main characters pretending it all didn't happen. It's... decent as a read, ok as a movie, and not very fulfilling as an idea.

The book was remarkably better, as most Crichton books are. Not his best. The movie was.... 🤔 Maybe carried by Dennis Hoffman? I guess?

For instructional purposes, I’m going to let you watch me have computer sex live on the net. We’ll also visit others who have mastered the art of one handed typing.

Well, this is off to an amazing start.

Lol at the end of this one.

I'm not sure they can review any more Neil Breen movies unless they are intentionally trying to kill Rich Evans.
