I generally play Fashion Souls, but I think I started out with the Alva set when it became available. Pretty good stats and low weight. Never cared for the drangleic sword, forget why though. Maybe weight, but my prized mastodon greatsword is pretty heavy too.

If you want a fast weapon with good range, there's a Fire-enchanted longsword you can get very early in the game. (Longswords are DEX weapons.)
From the Cardinal Tower bonfire in the Forest of the Fallen Giants, exit through the double doors and drop down on to the wooden platforms below the cliff directly across from those doors. Keep following the platforms down until you reach the ground at the bottom, and kill all of the Hollows down there. You will see two caves. One of the caves is a small alcove with some dumb item in it, and the other one is a hallyway witha fireball-spitting Salamander at the end. Find the Salamander cave and take note at the interval at which he spits fireballs. When he stops spitting, quickly run inside the cave and open a door that will be on your left (you are invincible while you open doors so the fireballs will not hurt you). Do not go inside that new room yet, instead, run back outside the cave (the open door should block the fireballs now) and kill two Hollows who drop down from above the cave (they would've tried to gank you if you had gone in the room first). After dispatching the Hollows, run back inside the cave to the new room you opened up. Inside you will find an Iron Chest containing a Fire Longsword.

Yeah, the Drangleic Sword is actually a greatsword, and a pretty average one at that. My first playthrough was a Paladin build. I used a Mace and the Drangleic Armor + Shield, as well as the Cleric's Sacred Chime for Zeus bolts.

I just really liked it's moveset. I replaced it with a mastodon sword and actually used a large club +10 for bosses

Crushing is OP in Dark Souls 2, and the other weapon types are a little bit underpowered. From Soft screwed up there.

I suppose. It's worth the $10, though. Best RPG I've played this year. Hell, best RPG I've played in a few years.

I have a pretty easy time compartmentalizing viewing a playthrough and doing it myself. It just hasn't ever been an issue. I try to avoid doing that with major releases that I really want to go blind in to, mostly because I know I'll be playing then on day 1. Since this was an indie game I had not heard about, and I like the streamer I just kind of got sucked in. She actually tried to voice act all the characters. But it was like 3am while I was playing DOTA and realistically only saw / understood like 20% of what was going on.
That was way too much explanation for something that doesn't matter, lol

Meh I watched speed runs of dark souls 1 before I played it and nothing was ruined for me. I was absolutely terrible at it.

Those speedrun vids are really demoralizing because the ease with which they blitz through the game tends to obscure just how good those players are.

We're talking about Undertale. Everything after the first five minutes of the game is spoiler territory, and the narrative is probably the best part of the game.
