Pulled the trigger on The Last Remnant since you guys have been talking about it so much. And for $10 on Steam, why not? Honestly don't think I've played a JRPG since... Final Fantasy 9.

If you really don't like using someone, the overnight training thing works well to keep them from falling too far behind (if you aren't playing the game in like 10 hour bursts).
You know I play in 10 hour bursts.

Btw if you just want to catch a few chars up you can game the overnight training by adjusting you PS4 clock.

The ps4 scholar of the first sin version is so weird with enemy/statue/item placement. Had to farm for souls for a branch to get to ruin sentinels. There was probably another way I was supposed to go but it wasn't clear. I cleared up to the lost sinner but it felt weird going for him before them.

I picked up the grand Lance and it is fucking crazy good

Wtf, I cannot allow this thread to be bumped (reverse bumped) onto the second page.

Anyway, I decided to give Zestiria a second chance, given its positive assessment here. It's gotten considerably better, but I still hate the fusion system. And yes, I understand how it works. I think it's one of those things that'll prove rewarding in postgame, but it's just an annoyance mid-game (just met the fuckable cardinal, not sure how far that is) to upgrade equipment several times, get a few nice skills on it and then loot somethingslightlyworse in its base form and therefore ultimately superior in its upgraded form, thereby requiring me to begin the process anew.

Suggestions for a 2nd game to play along with Dark Souls. Sometimes, I want to play a game, but not something so "dark". lol...

Action RPG preferred, but not Diablo, as I've played that to death. Can have turn based combat, but not turn based moving if that makes sense. D5 movement is what I don't want. Bravely Default on 3DS is turn based and acceptable though. Any suggestions?

MORE DARK SOULS!

Oh, fine. Actually, not sure what to suggest - do you like JRPG's? There's a plentitude of good action JRPG's, but - outside of this thread, anyway - not many people here like them. If you do, Tales of Zestiria isn't the best, but it's probably the one freshest in memory for a lot of the JRPG enthusiasts here and therefore one of the more discussion-friendly choices.

Dark Souls can get frustrating! Want a break!

I'll try that one out. It's on my Gamefly list, but might see if I can rent it from Redbox for a night to see if I like it. Thanks Doctor for all your help in this thread.

Hmmm, have you played Resonance of Fate or Valkyria Chronicles? They seem kinda like what you're looking for.

RoF is fucking awesome.

Here's a video I did of an epic tri-attack 5 years ago (it gets good at 3:30)

Grim Dawn if you can do PC game. Great ARPG, in early access for about another month but it's got a ton of content and farmability already

The greatest non dark souls PS3 action rpg will release soonish on PC if you want to wait: Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen. Think it's January 19th or something.

Any Tales is probably fine too for jrpg stuff, if you want PS4 though only Zestiria there, but if you don't mind PS3, Xillia(first one) is better from what I hear, haven't played Zestiria yet though.

If you want more Diablo-like, Grim Dawn as mentionned although it's almost done so might as well wait a few more weeks, or the old Torchlight 2 work well. Path of Exile is also great but it's a lot more complex and punishing.

Good suggestions. I haven't PC gamed in a long time due to my kids, but I'm actually rearranging the room so I can play while the kids sleep! Won't have the monitor blaring in their face.

Yeah definitely a thumbs up for Dragon's Dogma. I put a shitload of hours into the ps3 version, it has easily one of the most engaging overworlds in recent memory, and has no real barrier to keep you out of high end areas right from the getgo. Granted, you'll want to beat the base game first to open up all the other cool shit, but there's a lot of stuff to do and it is really fun. Climbing monsters to stab them in the face never gets old, really.

Sounds like Shadows of Mordor! That game was pretty freakin' sweet! I 100% that game, because it was so fun once you had all your OP combat abilities.

I bought this used like a year ago and still haven't played it, but man the word of mouth is both intense and effusive with this one. I got bored while taking a shit the other day and went to Gamefaqs on my phone without any explicit intention to look at anything there and was surprised to notice DD was I think #1 on the most active PS3 forums, and it's not like the PS3 is dated on that site - there exist active forums for games on far older hardware.

I am currently playing it and I am not finding it to be that great. The Captains get repetitive and the only reason to kill mooks is to get information about captains.

I had a lot of fun just killing. I'd walk into a orc base and ring a bell, and see how long I could go. It was just really fun killing. Popping orc heads and things. I think also it was so satisfying because in the beginning I died a lot from being a noob and not having all the cool killing abilities, and then to grow into a killing machine was nice. I didn't mind the story either.
