Dark souls ranked number two on my list of games I loved but broke remotes over.

Only game to exceed it in my 28 years of gaming is Killer Instinct on SNES. Young whipper snappers have no clue what anger is until you try beating that on the hardest difficulty, the last boss was so retarded!!! 3 remotes broke during the process and I'll put up the feeling I felt when I finally beat him
up there with how I felt scoring a touch down as a defensive end when I played in college. (Yes it was that amazing!) Orchid FTW!!!

Success!!! Feels good man!

So the platform where the Persuer shows up just once, there's some loot up there. I wanted it! But getting rushed by 3 of the Knights was killing me a lot. Well duh, let's have the bright idea of taking out 1 before the others come, then running back down the stairs so it makes it much more manageable to fight them! Bingo!

Then I run to the side of the platform, and look down and there are the 2 Knights there as well. I shoot them from the side of the platform, and they can't do shit! Bingo!

I didn't know you had to exploit pathing, and use pussy wall techniques to be successful in this game, but its working for me!! lol... (I fully realize there's dudes that are bad ass and play this whole game with a dagger and no levels...)

And yes, I switched back to my Sorcerer. I was mad at the lack of strength, and therefore the lack of shields/weapons I could use when I was out of magic, but that's all fixed up now! I farmed up 5k souls from the giant when you first enter of the Forest, and killed some other stuff that's easy for the mage, and I'm up to 8 strength now, from 3. And on top of this I also beat the room right before Prat, with the ballistas, and got some phatty loot! Got a new spell!! and a new 85% block shield!! Life is so good! Already have 9 Dex, and when I hit 10 Str I'll be able to use the Fire Longsword, and really start to wreck!

So I'm at Prat now, and things are going pretty good. Gonna stick with my Sorcerer!

Good man, feels good to do good. I'm surprised you had no trouble with the ogre but had trouble with the knights.

Exploiting pathing isn't always necessary - just channel your inner MMO player. Your group wouldn't want you to pull 4 mobs, so why should you?

You'll come across dangerous enemies later on that you'll just have to fight. My thing I always do in these games when I first encounter an enemy is bait him into attacking me a few times, I want to understand the moveset. Enemies usually have a "tell" for different movesets, so you can always react accordingly.

This is why speedrunners can beat the original DS2 in just over an hour (yes, really). Enemies and bosses are very predictable once you know how they move. I'm flying through the game because I'm just remembering how enemies attack and capitalizing on it.

The Lost Sinner did give me a little trouble though, the grand lance is probably not optimal to fight that boss with.

The souls games aren't necessarily about exploiting mechanics, but it's a large part of what makes them more accessible to people. There's a lot of tricks you can learn, from the basic cheese farming(like in DS1 that place in the forest where you get NPCs to fall down trying to reach you for easy souls), getting strong weapons early(dragon sword, fire sword, magic scimitar +2 or whatever in demon etc) to killing certain bosses by cheesing line of sight or collision(there was one in demon souls you could shoot from outside the room iirc and a bunch of bosses are like hug him real close instead of trying to be fancy and he'll miss everything) and so on. Finding some of that stuff by yourself is very rewarding since it is a valid solution to a problem. Sure you could just parry everything and one shot stuff naked with the starting dagger if you had godlike timing and stuff, but most people don't play like that.

The game generally rewards progressing slowly, fighting smart(including cheesing stuff if it's possible) and just keeping your cool. You can rambo your way through the game once you've beaten once, but it's generally a terrible idea the first time around. It is actually quite funny when you replay these games how easy everything seems to be after you spent so much time learning and understanding everything to beat them the first time.

Elated to read that, Crone! When I did my caster build I found myself gravitating more towards a battlemage and ended up hitting almost as hard as my STR character with my scythe, with the additional benefit of spells, with sacrifices made in beefiness. In other words, ranged AND melee glass cannon.

Are you planning something like that (with more durability at high level) or more of a beefy caster? Or an extremely potent ranged? All will work, and you don't need to decide for quite some time. Just curious.

By the time you hit the DLC you'll want some melee capability, but you can put that off until postgame if needed.

The controller just 'feels right' in this game to me.

I tried KB+M when DS1 was first released for PC and it was awful. From then on never again.

Speaking of DS1, I have a hankering to replay it.
I want to go back and replay DS1, but after playing DS2 so much I can't stand it. The camera and engine differences are night and day.

I had to think for several minutes to come up with something I felt DkS2 improved over the original before I remembered that jump could be bound to L3.

Go into DS1 and move the camera. Then go into DS2 and move the camera. The difference is massive.

I would, but DkS2's public test was so much of a disappointment that I cancelled my pre-order and just rented it. Played it, beat it, sent it back, and had no desire to ever play the DLCs/SotFS, especially after the way From "balanced" the game with their patches.

Was personally hoping for more of a turn based combat. And it didn't show anyone else doing stuff aside from Cloud in the combat scenes. Ah well, still looks cool, and Barret being voiced by the same guy who did Jet in Cowboy Bebop is pretty neat.

But if Vincent is voiced by Blum, I'm gonna facepalm pretty hard.

Indeed, I was even worried about the music but the touched up bombing mission theme still sent a shiver down my spine.

The Ogre didn't give me any trouble because I've had tons of practice on killing those from the 2 that are down below the Cardinal tower bonfire near the Fire longsword. Trust me, I had tons of trouble with them at first! Lol

I'm not sure yet. My caster was my first toon and started as a Sorcerer. So my stats are not balanced, but first thing I did was get to 20 ADP, and a little in the stat to give me a 2nd spell slot. So I was mad because the cost to raise my 3 strength seemed like a lot and I wanted to use shields and the fire longsword, but couldn't.

So my points latest have all been going into strength, and might stick to that for a while. I think I'd prefer a beefy melee with spells as a back up and I'm going at it backwards but I do really believe starting as a caster has a pretty easy time. I've got 20 adp and as soon as I can use the fire longsword in another couple levels I'll probably look back at casting stats and hit points and endurance.

There is. They're not that common but you can get half a dozen or so per playthrough if you know where to look, more if you use ascetics to respawn. Only used one or two, so I gorget what it's called.
