I bought FF13 for next-to-nothing off an Amazon bundle for PC and still felt like I paid too much

Meh, I got my $13 worth, however I could not get into number 2. I just don't like pokemon I guess. #3 is sitting in my backlog pile but keeps getting pushed down the list.

A fun game to play on steam if you're interested is Eternal Senia. It's a JRPGish anime/cute ARPG thing, but its actually free. Not free like free and heres shit to buy, but free as in the whole game is free, and you can donate if you want.

It's like a platformer, really, really fun. The guy made it with an RPGMaker tool, but wrote his combat engine himself.

It's surprisingly fun, and well worth checking out (again it's free).

Eternal Senia on Steam

PS: Alt-Enter makes it full screen. Otherwise the game is like a little tiny window.

Gonna have nothing to do for about 5 days at my parents' place, so I'll definitely give it a go. Also have Stella Glow, Bravely Default, Etrian Odyssey IV and Fantasy Life for 3DS, as well as anything that steam puts up that looks interesting and is laptop friendly.

Fucking love this week every year.

Fantasy Life is really great. Has some mmo-esque moments and lots of collect-x type deals to keep you engaged. Probably one of my favorite games, and definitely in the top 5 for the 3ds imo.

Yeah, wanted to play Fantasy Life for a while but put off the purchase for many months on account of not knowing whether to buy it or Rune Factory 4. Found a really useful reddit thread comparing the two and ultimately concluded that RF 4 looked fun enough but that its gameplay seemed pretty vulnerable to feeling like a chore.

Haven't played Rune Factory IV cause it's never on sale and I don't feel like buying the game full price(and since I'm in europe, it was released as digital only here) but Fantasy Life is definitely great, especially if you're the type of person who loves making alts in mmos.

A few of the classes are meh, but a lot are pretty fun and leveling all your shit is great especially with the crossclass dependence and shit. Difficulty is kinda low though other than the optional bosses, and even those are kinda derpy. And the story is godawful and has a fuckton of talking. Like old jrpg talking, but without anything interesting to say so yeah that's kinda annoying. Still the story itself is pretty short and serves more as a gating mechanic to the world and stuff, you can level all your shit then do 30mins of story then it unlocks a new area and you can level all your shit again and so on.

Copy/pasted from an erroneous submission to the Bloodborne thread:

Still playing XIII-2 and still ambivalent. It's certainly more fun than XIII, imo, but the people touting its non-linearity? Come. On. I dislike open-world games like GTA and Skyrim, but when I hear a jrpg is nonlinear I get excited and assume it's actually linear but has an world map or something. This isn't either of those, merely a series of selectable maps (think Demon's Souls, but shitty) undergirded by an engine that somehow took a couple years to progress negatively from FFXIII. Both the framerate and graphics are noticeably worse.

I do like the monster collecting, though, and that alone allows for more customization than XIII.

I learned pretty early than I don't give a shit about the story and just surf the internet during cutscenes (like right now). Afraid to skip them because the branching dialog that often occurs during a cutscene seems to be linked to treasure rewards sometimes.

I started D:OS, but man spending 4 hours in the town for a murder investigation is a really fucking slow start to the game. Then someome said it doesn't get better. I feel like I got scammed.

It took you 4 hours to do the murder? and eh it gets way better after that i mean you could spend hours and hours in the first town if you want but the game opens up after that.

pretty sure most people would consider Cyseal and surrounding area, the best part of the game. If you didnt like that, I would think you wont like the rest, or the genre in general.

Yeah without a guide or anything, plus the controls are fucking abysmal on PS4.

It's Baldur's Gate for sure.

The town was just so boring. I mean, there's more to the game than that town right?

Combat is 'ok' - I got my ass handed to me outside of town. It was only 3 of us, so maybe I missed another party member in town?

similar to Balders gate. but its actually ultima. Much heavier focus on the world and game systems as a mechanic.

I thought the PS4 controls were far better than the m/kb ones when I tried the original version. Except for inventory management, which is an abomination regardless of control scheme.

I agree about the 'murder mystery' being a poor way to start the game though. It drags on for so goddamn long if you haven't read spoilers to solve it in the most optimal way, and the worst part is when you spend hours on that and then finally get to fight again only to realize you chose your party setup very poorly. The idea of starting over after all that, even knowing exactly what to do, was soul-crushing.

It does get better though once you get back to actually killing shit regularly. I never finished it but I plan to get the EE on Steam/GOG someday (after Larian finally starts discounting it properly, like Wasteland 2 and Pillars of Eternity have been for a long time).
