I've returned to EQ a few times and had a blast fpr a few months, but eventually and inevitably burn out because grouping is such an insular activity in that game. Aside from House of Thule T1 there was never a place to find a group when I last played.
Recettear'scurrently 75% off in the Steam Salebtw so if anyone's not got it then it'll be an ideal time.

Last time I played EQ for more than a month was back when TLP 2.0 came out and was on Vulak server. Played maybe a month when the more recent TLP 3.0 came out, and I'm going on just over 2 weeks for the most recent TLP on phinigel server. We shall see how long this lasts and it'll be largely dependent on the people and guild I end up playing with. That's what keeps me playing these games.

I actually can't do progression because my account has that retardedly broken RAF benefit thaf gives one character like +300% and the other +100% xp bonus when in same group.
Guess it'd work if I just played 1 character, but when I boxed i'd outlevel friends in group within a few hours.

I got final Fantasy 1 for my phone (android) . Actually not a bad port, the only downside is the d-pad is atrocious. Good to play on the shutter.
Yeah, this was amazing.

Yeah, I gotta agree. If they are doing a trash-port like they generally do to mobile devices, it would 100% make more sense to just load up epsxe and play the game in it's original format. They tend to do reworks that end up being shit when it comes to handheld devices. The CT revamp wasn't nearly as jarring, largely because it was a port of the DS version, so already partially mobile friendly. 9 straight from PS to phone/pc? Yeah, zero hope it's faithful or nearly as playable. And 9 had pretty limited gameplay options.

The iOS ports for III, IV, V, and VI weren't that bad. They were very playable on a Tablet. The controls took some getting used to but weren't that bad. VII though is another story. They tried to recreate a full PSX controller on screen and it's clunky and distracting. I'm hoping they learned some lessons for the IX port but we'll see what it's like after release.

They said it will have "HD graphics" though. They might just slap a shitty filter on it and call it a day but it's possible they rework a bunch of stuff. Game has aged like shit tbh, and even with an emulator it looks pretty much like shit. It's right at the wrong time, it's too detailed to apply simple filters and get a good result but too ugly to play without any changes. Older stuff(VII and even VIII) actually looks better.
I'd wait to see what they do. I wouldn't expect much, but it might be better than emulator stuff, maybe.

Yeah, you can't really use ePSXe's hardware 3D filters on it. That's what thescreenshotsof the new version look like though. Ultra-sharp, out of place 3D on top of hand-drawn backgrounds upscaled with bilinear filtering. The UI does give me some hope at least; it actually looks like an improved/sharpened version of the original rather than something chopped out of a shitty Flash game. The pictures are better than I expected it to look, I'll say that much. If the models don't jitter like they do on PSX and the control scheme isn't total shit, I'd probably play this version.
As far as emulators go, the best I was able to get with RetroArch/Mednafen PSX is:
It's not great since there's not a whole lot of detail to work with, but it's a hell of a lot better than theuntouched game. (And yes, I'm one of those people who thinks a scanline filter improves the look of PSX and older games.)

I'd rather play all of those on an emulator, whether I'm playing them on phone, tablet, or PC.

I remember hearing a long time ago they were working on porting XI to mobile devices. Was that squashed or still coming? Seemed really strange and impossible to me.

Well XI is dead, so it wouldn't make much sense to port it at this point. They're still running the servers but it's not getting any new content anymore(or maybe that's in a few months, but it was announced last year that they were about to stop and just doing one last story arc).
Screens of that IX port look pretty ok. Not a fan of the bilinear filtering making all the backgrounds all muddy, but the characters look a ton better. Maybe the modders will find a way to do the backgrounds with different effects like they've done for the various other ports, on PC at least. Still, looks like it'd be playable and looks better than emulators, so I'd probably buy that since I haven't played IX, it's the one I didn't play and I tried going back to it on PS3 or something but it looked way too much like shit at that point.
Obviously, I also don't have time to go back to it, so whatever.
On a slightly different note, they confirmed FFXV for 2016. Granted, this might be december and western release could be a couple months behind putting it in 2017, but at least they're actually finishing the game now.
