Looking for a decent JRPG to play on PS4. Witcher 3 and Bloodborne are both games I'm enjoying but not the kind of games I can play for 5 hours at a time. I need to take breaks in between and want something to fill the gaps. Already beat Tales of Zestiria (thought it was garbage, combat was especially terrible) and Disgaea 5 (enjoyed it enough to plat it). Any recommendations? I like all types of combat (action, turn based, strategy) when done well so it's not like I just hate action and that's why I hated Tales and love strategy and that's why I liked D5.

Your options are pretty limited on PS4. Basically FF X/X-2 HD, FF Type-0 HD, Sword Art Online, and (lol) Omega Quintet. Of those, I'd recommend Type-0 by far, but even that's hard to do when there's a PC version of it that is far superior to PS4.

Not much upcoming real soon either, unless you're a fan of NISA or Gust, in which case there's Neptunia VII and Nights of Azure in Feb and March respectively.

Pretty much sums up why I finally caved in and bought a 3DS last month. After xmas sales I've got enough Shin Megami Tensei games on it to last me until Persona 5 is out. (Plus Bravely Default, Stella Glow, Fire Emblem Awakening, Fire Emblem Fates soon, etc.)

No reason to (lol) at Omega Quintet. It's an Idea Factory RPG. It's fun and has been on sale several times through PSN. It's worth the $60 I paid for it, so people picking it up for ~$20 are getting it at a steal.

Megadimension Neptunia is coming out next month, so I'm pretty stoked for that as well.

Right now my Vita is filling my JRPG void while I wait for more PS4 ones to come out.

There's supposed to be the remaster of Valkyria Chronicles and the sequel coming to PS4, yes?

VC1 remaster is out next month in Japan, no date for west. If you've already played it on PS3, I'd advise getting the PC version with the Gallian Crossfire mod (fixes most of the idiotic design decisions in the original game, like rewarding you for rushing through missions in as few turns as possible using OP units and orders instead of coming up with an actual strategy). You can use GeDoSaTo to downsample it from 4K to whatever your desktop resolution is and end up with visuals that are probably just as good as what the PS4 HD version will have.

The next game in the series (Azure Revolution) isn't even due out in Japan until next year, so probably not until 2017 for us.

Gave up on Xiii-2. Never thought I'd concede to Noodlebro's argument that XIII is a better game.

Since half of my issues are technical issues - issues I've posted about at length - I suspect I'd have liked it a lot more on PC.

A few things not fixable by better hardware and without mod support:

The crystarium system is even worse than before.

The game's level select crap is about the laziest way possible to address the charge that its predecessor was too linear.

Quick-time events in a jrpg.

Story I stopped giving a shit about somewhere in the middle of the first scene, which resulted in my failing literally every hence.

What's the skinny on this game?
It's fucking great. It plays a bit like a mix of Dark Souls and Monster Hunter, but more action packed. Note that it's not Dark Souls or MH, it just has a bunch of elements reminiscent of them. It has traditional quests(including filler shit sidequests), class based, skill based(as in, you use skills, not just weapon attacks strings like in Dark Souls/MH), you play with in a 4man party made up of AI named Pawns(1 you design yourself, the other 2 you recruits from a pool of randomized ones or online from the other player's personnal pawns). Combat is really where the game shines though, as it's old(so it doesn't look the best, still much better than on PS3 though obviously), the story is meh and the other RPG elements are very basic. But it's so fucking fun to play. Best part of combat is that you can climb on monsters, similar to Shadow of the Collossus kind of stuff.

Best comparison I'd say is Kingdom of Amalur, in terms of how it plays. They're very similar games, only that Dragon's Dogma is actually really good instead.

I think there's still codes for 25% off, so it's "only" 22$ or so, which is a more than fair price for a game that roughly has 40hours of content iirc. Can be a lot more since it has post game shit and farming randomized drops and what not, plus you might want to check out other classes too(there's 9 and while some are similar, there's a bunch that are very unique).

Base game had easily 40 hours of content before Dark Arisen. Base game + NG+ + Dark Arisen I put about 150 hours into.

Yeah I was 100+hours too but there was a lot of post game farming, I don't really remember how long Dark Arisen is though. Probably longer if you don't know the base game before doing Dark Arisen I guess.

Sounds really cool, I just wish it was multiplayer. =(

No date yet, so you're probably looking at six months or so. MS paid for the worldwide release of SO4, Sony isn't doing the same this time around.

Not sure if you put it on your list, but Divinity Original Sin 2 is out next year, as well. While its not any FFT/Tactics Ogre and the puzzle shit was fairly ridiculous, the first one was a pretty solid tactical RPG and sold pretty well. Looking forward to the second. Also, square needs to just make the Tactics Ogre PSP remake into a tablet game like they did with all of their other shitty remakes, already....

A - and then i was doing 5min runs on the last boss once my group was set up. I never killed that reaper dude but the game has its atmospheres down pretty good and still has some of the best dungeon design imo.

Doubt that's going to happen anytime soon, but in the meantime PPSSPP plays it almost perfectly on my phone (and PC).

Thank you for agreeing. People that say it is good are the same time of people that think Walmart store brand cola tastes as good as coke or Pepsi.
