I'm a fatty and have a wide foot, I can't wear Nikes, they are too thin. As a teen/20s when I was actually active and playing sports I always went Reebok, they are made a little wider by default. Now that I'm a middle-aged tub that doesn't play any sports any more, I just buy New Balance shoes, they are nice and wide and super comfy for mowing the yard or whatever other limited physical activity I do nowadays.

If you have the room get a butcherblock, I cant stand cutting boards since my knife skill suck and I need the room.

End grain butcherblocks are the best for your knives (and look the best). Bamboo isn't bad, but the resin needed to keep it together can be hell on your knives if you have thinner Japanese blades. I also like the sani-tuff/hi-soft stuff, though it feels weird to cut on.

Plastic is ok but is also rough on knives, glass is just no.

I've been using shitty knives on shitty cutting boards for my entire life and never cut myself. Maybe you're just clumsy...and probably ugly.

I understand that my cheap cutting board is not friendly to my knives and its food for thought since I never really considered it. Good stuff. With that said, assuming my knives are dull because of it is retarded, way to exaggerate. I steel my blades regularly and hone then whenever the blade lose its bite. I'd say proper maintenance means a fair bit. I'm one of the straight shavers on this board; it's not like I'm foreign to the concept of sharp blades.

I refuse to believe you don't cut yourself 2-3 times a week because of your shitty cutting board. You probably don't even have fingers at this point.

You got me. I even lost a few toes when my cheap knife broke and the jagged piece of steel impaled my foot.

Wooden cutting boards are breeding grounds for all sorts of nasty shit, not to mention the cross-contamination that occurs by using the same board to cut everything. Use plastic. You can buy lots of them and sterilize them in the dishwasher.

Well sure, but you might as well be using a mallet to chop your food at that point. Or maybe a shoe. Probably a Nike, I hear they are thinner and that should make for better cutting.

Or you could just not be a slob and wash your shit with soap and water. I'm already washing y hands after cutting chicken, why not wash down the cutting board or butherblock too.

It's really not hard to keep any type of board clean, professional cooks have been using wood boards for years without killing people. Plastic boards actually hold more in the way of bacteria, but they can go in the dishwasher as you said.

They all work fine, except glass. That shit makes no sense.

Probably people that butcher a chicken and then grab their produce and do a mirepoix (can you actually even get sick from that anymore? Thought I read something that we've gotten really good at keeping bacteria out in general, but I err on separation). I use two cutting boards, wood butcher block for my veg and misc, and a plastic one that I can throw in the dishwasher for meat. Guess based on Soygen's link we could just buy another butcher block for meat but then I'd have to remember which one was which. Hard knock life, ferreal.

Or you can just rinse it off after you cut your raw meat. The dishwasher isn't an autoclave, it's no better or worse than just washing the board off with soap and water.

Yeah, the dishwasher is just for the lazy factor. In most cases, I wash shit better by hand anyway.

Now I want an autoclave in my kitchen.
