turns out covid is even stronger than Starro
James Gunn's antihero pic came in behind expectations as COVID-19 cases once again rise in the U.S. The film also debuted on HBO Max so that fans could watch it in the comfort of their own homes.

Black Widow did $64m box office (+$60m D+), Jungle Cruise did $34m (+$30m D+), Suicide Squad was expected to do around $30-35m but was below even that. It aired on HBO Max as well.
Budget for the movie was $175m so it needed to make over $400m to be profitable, I don't think its even gonna be released in China.
I wonder if we'll see some movies cancel their 2021 theater-only release plans now, like Top Gun and Eternals. Every movie coming out is doing worse than the movie before it.
In addition to well, just Hollywood trash, I wonder if people are basically going through what I did years back.
Oh hey dad, let's go catch a movie. Been years!
* Go see GotG1 and Edge of Tomorrow-Live Die Repeat. *
Wow, those movies were ok but the sound in there wasn't that great and those chairs were like sitting on stone compared to home. Also the place was covered in unknown body fluids or some shit and why does a drink cost $10 now, I could buy 10 2 liters for that!
When theaters came about, most people didn't have a single TV in the home and those who did had a shitty picture and minimal sound.
Going to the movies was seeing it on the BIG SCREEN! Great sound! Candy and popcorn!
Issue I had with GotG and Live Die Repeat wasn't the movie, it was I had a nice 65" 4k sitting at home connected to a system that shakes the gutters.
Even if you eliminate the ticket and concessions prices, you are still sitting in a foreign environment when you got a decent viewing at home that you can pause, go take a shit or pop some hot pockets in the microwave.
Then you got shit like Disney+ who charges you for the streaming service and then another $30 for the movie and on the flip side HBO Max and Paramount just throw their shit to the public for free is you are a subscriber ( or get it free with fiber like I do ). So sub +$30 or sub and watch it for a month free. Slight difference there in presentation.
I think theaters still got a place in the world, some go for the social aspect of mingling and others to escape the home. I would guess a good portion of sales is just simply nostalgia subconsciously reliving more pleasant times and younger years. However I personally feel that the days of packing 16 movies at once are over. The theaters of tomorrow will be more personal and private. Almost like a stripper both but without the heavy porn. The things that drove them to exist have long been conquered just like drive-ins were. They still exist but at much less locations. Theaters are next up.
