The point of that story was about four pages right in the middle of the book. It's been years, but he started talking about "the kinds of thoughts you have past midnight". Something along those lines.
The entire book was a delivery system for those four pages. Hemingway did that kind of thing.
The story itself was not very interesting, and I don't believe Hemingway would have considered it so himself. Even when he wrote it that story was tropeish.
And that makes those pages pop out even more. I thought it was really effective. But all I remember about the story is that it was about some cunt of a woman and a man who was slowly realizing she was a cunt.
