So that does explain why they pulled the Q&A spoiler I normally post. Speculation was correct but the way it went down was worth not spoiling the masses as to be a total I didn't see that coming moment.
Also explains why episode 9 was the last spotting on set. What ever Scott says plays out will play out after the break. Probably some sort of sacrifice to Negan. Scott did say on talking dead just now it is a fatal bite and plays out like every bite.
As for why and the comic departure, Riggs spent his entire teens on Walking Dead and school in between and off to college and to start a life. He could have probably sucked out 2-5 more years from this show before it ends so you have to respect the choice he made as an 18 yr old.
Also given they did a whole volume in 8 episodes, it is clear pretty much the Negan war will end in the second half.

thats why tv shows traditionally recast child characters. carl should have been replaced by season 3 or 4.

Not sure why they didn't go that route other than maybe they want to break away from the comics some due to upcoming events and time gap and so forth.

well, they could have followed the same story arc, they didnt need this kid to be there when it happened. their timeline was what? 2 or 3 years after the zombocalypse? they already hosed their continuity. he must have been a major fan favorite to be kept this long.

not sure what's worse...that this entire episode was shot in the dark so I can't tell what the hell is going on, or the fact that I don't even give a shit anyways.
edit - after rewinding 40 minutes I still can't find the scene in which he got bit. What the hell?
