Regal was never big as Cinemark, but that is still a pretty large chain to be shutting down.

You’ve convinced me I’m going to buy that too. Plus supposedly dry kernels of popcorn have an indefinite shelf life, good for prepping.

A seasoned sailor on here said, head to the docks. No one will think to go there for food, but barnacles, if you know how to harvest and prepare them, and endlessly replenishing choice of protein. I went online, and it checked out. If you are willing to be inconvenienced socially, you can also grow certain species of barnacles on your own body. That means you can stay mobile and have an endless supply of protein.

^^^^^^^^It is all you!

But it's true: some species of barnacles can live on human beings. That's a sustainability angle. And for locavores, it would be the ultimate. Self raised barnacles -- pick your own.

As a non-human I don't know about your trivial problems. Fur is pretty nice after all.

Regal theaters are just closing since no big movies and they are not making enough money to be worth keeping open for now.. They are not gone forever... yet.

hopefully some of those movie theaters go back into the hands of Mom N Pop and they can make all kinds of incentives to get people back in. such as alcohol and special showings. if i had the cash i would totally open my own theater and show only classics. like really old ones from the1920s and 30s.

Repertoire films + current showings. Why not? As a consumer, yeah, I would enjoy a place like that. BUT, it might very well be the studios. Those are two separate entities and the studios might not give a fuck if the theater chains collapse. They were always middlemen to them. I'm not a big movie goer but I'm not stupid, and I think it is not a good idea to lose "public places" too much. Malls are a joke, but, it got people out and mingling. That's what I think is probably a bad move.

We are savages. We need to be socialized, and clearly the internet is not any substitute. I have zero idea what it must be like to be a teenager these days. Zero.

The homeless might take care of that themselves, if they were smart. The top of theaters is usually pretty high compared to the surrounding malls or stores. That's line of sight. You pop a qualified sniper in each corner, and it will be difficult to dislodge an encampment, as long as they can maintain air superiority.

The information comes from S&P Global, who recently reduced its credit rating for AMC Entertainment. AMC has been restructuring its debt to avoid bankruptcy and attempting to raise cash to stay afloat. Even so, S&P believes that the rate at which the company is burning through cash is untenable. Here's what they had to say.

"Given our expectations for a high rate of cash burn, we believe the company will run out of liquidity within the next six months unless it is able to raise additional capital, which we view as unlikely, or attendance levels materially improve."

supposedly AMC has 80% of their theaters open and plan to open another 37 this month. which i think means they would have just under 100 closed.

thanksgiving
Pixar's Soul and Dreamwork's Croods
December
Dune, Coming 2 America, Wonder Woman84, Free Guy

think Dune and WW84 have a 50/50 chance of coming out. before covid, ww84 had estimates near $500m, only recent estimate i could find still think it could do $400m+. really don't see how though

only Dune might get into a theater, but that is ifify.

good, maybe that dead fuck, Redenbacher will lower his damned prices. although store brand popping corn is is just as good though it doesnt last nearly as long. my popcorn game has been on point since i bought a vintage popping machine.
ya'll gonna say i'm too asian...

but i've just experimented with using my wok to pop popcorn.

don't get me wrong, i have an air popper, it was "okish" but lets be honest it sucks and it was regulated to roasting coffee beans, cuz it sucks

so what i settled on was taking a big stock pot, like 8qts, putting 2tbs of butter/coconut oil, melting it, but before it starts to "sizzle" (i.e. drop of water), then i drop a tbs of flavcol and msg, and i load up a cup of kernels in there and shake it all around, coating it the butter. what this will do is, it'll make the center of the popcorn all buttery and pow pow.

i guess it's like the regular old school stove pop, but i get to choose the kernels.

now that i got a bigger wok (to do more popcorn), it'll pop the kernels even faster.

ive seen people do popcorn with a wok. i dont own a wok. i havent yet felt the need for one. my cast iron pans seem to be able to do anything.

the difference between a wok (carbon steel) vs cast iron pan is that a wok will give direct heat (it's basically like roasting a smore) vs. cast iron that retains heats (cooks the smore in a soup can)

it's in the heat/energy delivery

searing steaks in a cast iron pan is a hallmark of a good steak. its not a soup can. you get oodles of direct heat out of one. its just gonna take a few minutes to get up to temp.
