Pretty much. WoW was an aberration in my mind. It became far larger than they ever dreamed. I think the problem is everyone (including me) now has lofty expectations and they've really done nothing but fall short of them since.Blizzard is doing the same thing now that they have always done.
There's no way a DOTA clone can ever pull in the casuals like WoW did. I don't care how much fun the game is, the absurd, sociopathic hostility that these games' communities are known for will drive them away real fast. They should do some YouTube reaction videos showing new HOTS players react to the other players threatening to rape and murder their whole families on their second match ever.No HotS is damn fun. It is going to be a massive hit.
I wouldnt put it past Blizzard to not include a team chat function and only provide a set number of hotkeys for communication. It's really unthinkable for LoL or DotA to cripple their team-based game like that, but I'm sure HotS is aimed at casuals that would not mind or even notice. On the other hand, removing team chat would remove the toxic atmosphere that drives player type away from the game. The loss of coordination and team play that results from that choice wont bother the casuals because they rarely utilize it.There's no way a DOTA clone can ever pull in the casuals like WoW did. Dota 2/LoL are actually interesting games to me but I'll never touch them due to this. I have a pretty thick skin, but i have no desire to be a clueless newbie inthatcommunity.
Pre Kotick it was about making fun games.Blizzard is doing the same thing now that they have always done.
they could steal the voice commands from Smite where you type in certain key combinations and your hero automatically says a line (eg typing in VF3 will say 'Enemy missing right lane')I wouldnt put it past Blizzard to not include a team chat function and only provide a set number of hotkeys for communication. The genre isn't dead and Blizzard didn't kill it.The Blizzard we all knew and loved is long, long gone. MMOs are long, long dead. They've killed a genre. Our genre.
you... realize that destiny is coming to pc?Shocked because evidence supports it? I think there is much more evidence to deny than support but you can feel ho you wish on it. I'm okay with you not agreeing with me. -shrug-
Destiny didn't go on all platforms because they stated it's too much to do. They have said that having it on PS4, PS3, XBone and the 360 was hard enough but throwing PC into the mix would have been way to much. Don't you think with their 10 year publishing deal they have going with Activision that perhaps "deep pockets" just might not be all there is to doing what you're thinking?
If EQN is great and we all play it for 5 years then WoW 2.0 comes out and it blows EQN out of the water and we play that for 5 years then we wait for 5 years playing shitty mmos 1 month at a time until EQNN comes out and the circle repeats forever. For all the bashing Eqnext is receiving, maybe, just maybe, it will succeed in many areas. With the voxel approach and everything it might set a new trend. Blizzard is in a position to just sit back, analyse Eqnext inside out and basically pull another Eq to WoW move.
Morhaime excuse of not wanting to be just a ''mmo'' company irritates me tho. Blizzard IS about doing and polishing the samething over and over, its what theyre known for. Theyre the sequel company. They need to get over their ego of being trendsetters, let that to indie companies. They need to pick up their ideas and refine the fuck outta them.
Yeah. World of Warcraft was born from Warcraft Adventures.Ya, one thing Blizzard does do is recycle terminated projects and incorporate elements into other games, be it characters/lore or even certain mechanics.
More like EQN bombs, Blizzard refines EQN by making a landmark/storybricks accessible and very easy to use, and actually takes a refined EQN that couldn't be done by SOE's team even though the answers are staring them blankly in the face. The likely result if they even see the potential in that type of game.If EQN is great and we all play it for 5 years then WoW 2.0 comes out and it blows EQN out of the water and we play that for 5 years then we wait for 5 years playing shitty mmos 1 month at a time until EQNN comes out and the circle repeats forever.
..I'm ok with that
HOTS already doesn't allow global chat. That cuts down on hostility pretty heavily because you can't go into global chat and start bashing a team mate. At least in DOTA for the most part that was the way the toxicity would play out. There is also the fact that in HOTS if your team sucks the game is over in 10-15 minutes. It doesn't take 30-45 minutes to end a won game. So people will just accept the loss and move on. They aren't forced to be tortured much longer than required. There's no way a DOTA clone can ever pull in the casuals like WoW did. Hope they work out things like the loot being a toilet bowl and no LFG system for high level shit before then. Good god, what a bunch of chucklefucks at Bungie.you... realize that destiny is coming to pc?
