Currently in Tokyo with the family. Having a great time. The exchange rate is great; we're eating like kings for about half to a third of what it would cost at home. A couple more days in Tokyo then off to Kyoto for for the rest of the week. A+ international travel so far, just be prepared for a shitload of walking. We're averaging 20-25k steps a day.

Kyoto is some good shit. Try some Juyondai saki while you're out there. Just go to a bar and order a glass. It'll run you like 2,000-2,500 yen, but definitely worth it.
PS - Buy some prescription glasses while you're there. It's so damn inexpensive. The eye exam is free at a glasses store, and they're able to make your new prescription glasses within an hour. Really fantastic service.

I went to Tokyo for a meeting with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. I felt like Andre the Giant there at least height wise. MHI paid for everything so I ate a really great steak. I was only in country 24 hours. People were super nice and I'm sure there are interesting things all over. But too many people in too small an area for me.
I did get a short little intro from the company I went for on how to accept and present a business card. I don't know how many times they said "Don't go anywhere without a card". When you presented one the person would look at it and read it and look for quite a while. I had the feeling it was like being scanned and put into their memory bank and cross referenced with all the other ones they had got and they would never see it again. Multiple people I gave one too asked if I knew about the Alamo. Yes it's less than 10 minutes away.

The police in Japan were very happy to stop you and ask who you are and why you are in their jurisdiction when I was there 30 years ago. If you don't have a reason to be there I imagine you would get Johnny Somali'd pretty quickly.
