I did not see this mentioned but it was one of my favorite parts of last nights episode. Woody gives the boys the option of an ass kicking or prison and he is slow and deliberate about getting ready like he is a stone cold mother fucker. Then he gets outside at the car and is puking. I think it says a lot about his character.

Hello, I don't know you but that's probably the most stupid thing I've ever read about a True Detective discussion. Even 4chan's /tv/ is trolling better, to be quite honest. I wonder if any of Rust's current drinking has to do with the self loathing over banging his only friends wife. I know he had plenty before but curious if that made him just go over the edge after the fight.

Maybe he doesn't really have drinking problems in 2012 and he asked beers because he knows anything he'd say under influence fucks testimony, like a precaution. 10 years is long.

That is something I had not considered but I don't know if that is true. I would think being drunk would not excuse you. I think more than likely it might put the detectives at ease and make it easier for Rust to try and get information out of them?

Unless it's a check in the "unreliable narrator" column, Rust said in that interview that he starts drinking at noon on his days off, as evidenced by that six pack seemingly not making a dent in his clarity.

I think part of Rust's knowing himself is being comfortable with the fact that he's a functional alcoholic.

I have a feeling that Rust really just went crazy. He went down the wrong path so far that maybe the dead body on the bridge was him trying to flush the old killer or organization out or something. I think Marty is going to find out something he doesn't like and shoots Rust in the face the same way he did to Ladeux.

That or Rust has to ask Marty's daughter about some shit and ends up sleeping with her the same way he did with Marty's wife. The daughter getting back at daddy and all that. And Marty shoots Rust in the face for that.

I see Rust dead either way.

I think that is all pretty far fetched to say the least. But the running theme of The King in Yellow would support Rust going insane, at least somewhat.

For me, the Rust monologues have done enough to create the impression of a man who has become slightly unhinged delving into the depths of those deeper truths of the universe he sees at work. That whole take that followed up him saying that someone once told him life was a flat circle, that someone was Reggie Ledoux.

Him saying "Someone once told him..." was because he couldn't tell the cops who told him. We saw it literally a couple minutes before he said that in the interrogation. He couldn't exactly tell the officers Ledoux said that, since they lied about the entire incident and in their lie, they didn't talk to Ledoux before killing him.

I think Rust is definitely weird and obsessed, but I don't think he's crazy.

I think a lot of people thinking Hart is The Yellow King because of what he wears/his hair is really inaccurate because if I recall they've purposefully shot the show around a certain color scheme (kind of the dirty, rural look) so shit just all happens to be that color.
