I hate to be the "well actually" nerd, but I don't think you can torture someone with a car battery unless you are hitting them over the head with it. Go grab the battery posts on your car. 12 volts isn't enough to even give you a perceivable shock.

Amperage is what kills you though, and car batteries produce over 40 amps.

Upon reflection, it is very possible that something like the daughter being a whore is simply an unconscious reaction to her knowing that her father is cheating on her mother. That sort of thing (probably) happens all the time I'd think, so maybe it was more of a reflection on Hart himself than on any molestation or relation to the cult. They always say that kids know what is going on, and it was fairly obvious to everyone that Hart was cheating, so maybe his daughter was acting out because of it. Hell, those girls weren't that much older than his daughter either, which might have messed with her. As mentioned above about the wife, it also makes a decent red herring.

Yeah, the daughter could be a red herring(intentional or not). Either way, it's not really a loose end. Some people have slutty kids. It doesn't mean they're being molested by a cult. That said, the dolls and drawings thing is kind of odd and they clearly made that a part of the storyline for a reason.

Yeah, but with such a low voltage, it's not enough to push those amps through and hurt you really. Your skin would resist it. Amperage kills you, but you still need voltage high enough to conduct through the object(this case being a human).

After giving the battery debate some thought, this show is now terrible.

Volts and Amperage are directly related. 12 volts is not enough to get current flowing through your body. Because of the resistance of your body, you need like 50 volts to get enough current flowing that you can even feel it. It doesn't matter that the battery is capable of putting out plenty of amperage if it doesn't have the voltage to run it through the resistance of your body. I'm serious, go grab the posts on your car battery, nothing happens. Soygen is right that you could probably burn someone by arcing the leads together next to their skin though.

The entire human body is about 1200 ohms of resistance. If, say you were trying to murder someone with a battery, you suspended them Lethal Weapon style, wet them to lower skin resistance, and connected a car battery to their nipples, you could pump 40 amps through their heart.

To get 40 amps out of 12 volts you have to have a resistance of 0.3 Ohms. It's called "Ohm's Law" for a reason. It's the god damn law.

He's wiring two batteries in series, which doubles the voltage output as well.

I think we're right about the daughter, and I don't think Hart or Rust will ever figure it out. We have knowledge the characters don't have because we're Eternity or whatnot, remember?

It could very well end showing us the people who get away with it as a tease - Maggie, the father in law, the black cops, the guy who owns the bar Rusts works at, Lester from the Wire who was in the show for two minutes, the mailman, and Daddario's left boob. And there's strong evidence against her other boob, too. I've played that scene over and over and something just doesn't add up.

because Hart's daughter is "not right" and they went to the trouble of introducing the mother and father characters and they had no payoff. my theory was when Hart took his family to visit the inlaws, something happened that scarred the little girl. now unless she went to a tuttle school and she got molested there, i think the father in law subplot still has legs. i mean yeah she may have gone to a tuttle religious school because hart is extra christian, but so far he has not mentioned his daughter attending one of them. now this may come into play later on if hart starts to blame himself for making the daughter go there, but we have to see.
