Vince Vaughn has done serious acting, but it's been like 15 years. And it all predated his comedic work.

McConaughey has pretty consistently been a dramatic actor.

Vince Vaughn can do serious just fine I bet.
The problem for a lot of people will be suspending belief. After you only do comedy for a long time it is hard to be taken seriously.

I'm still 100% in. Two A list actors with the same writing as S1 is going to be enjoyable TV at worst.

He was pretty good in Clay Pigeons. It was a mediocre indie movie but he was a pretty good bad guy. The dude has a ton of charisma.

Vince Vaughan will make a fine criminal. He will probably be the strongest part of the new season if you ask me.

I want to see Michael Shannon on a season of this show sometime after Boardwalk Empire ends.

It could work...but the writing is going to have to be great, and Vaughn is going to have to dig deep in the well. I don't doubt that CF can pull off a worthy performance, but basically zero chance this comes anywhere near Season 1.
I can't recall the article(s) but I remember reading someone from HBO or somewhere else saying the scripts for season two are crazy good

I have more confidence in Vince Vaughn than I do in Colin Farrell.
Blasphemy! In Bruges, Horrible Bosses, Tigerland, Seven Psychopaths, Fright Night, ect give me faith. He's just taken a lot of bad roles imh, even stuff like Minority Report, Recruit and most other movies he was fine, it wasnt his performance that ruin most of his movies

maybe if vince vaughn dies early on it may rescue the show. if they start with multiple leads, one or 2 of them is bound to take a dirt nap somewhere during the season.

You should write a letter to HBO, Astro. Make sure they don't ruin this.

Have to agree with Astro. Vince Vaughn is fucking garbage.

Season one leads were both super solid actors who both had broad bodies of work.

Horrible choice.

I could certainly see Vaughn pulling off a criminal, it's not a hard move from some of his comedic characters nor his Swingers character were they were a bit unstable to begin with. Not sure how great he'll be but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt until I see it in action.

I like the Farrell casting a lot, his In Bruges character was awesome and that should lend well to a True Detective type vibe.

McAdams so far I think is the worst unless it comes with heavy nudity :crossesfingers:

Before 2012, it's not like McConaughey had Daniel Day Lewis's resume or something. He had some good flicks but take a browse through the imdb some time. With a couple notable exceptions, it's a dumpster fire from 94-2011. Harrelson less so but he's not exactly considered one of the great actors of our time. They came into this show on the upswing with 0 expectations. I think Farrell and Vaughn will be just fine.

Yep. In fact, it's probably WHY they cast him. The whole arc looks like it's practically written for his character:

Vince Vaughn will appear as Frank Semyon, a career criminal trying to start up legitimate businesses whose plans are threatened by the murder of his partner in the enterprise.
I'm fairly excited about the second season but I agree it's got a lot of shadow to crawl out of. I actually have more faith in HBO's casting directors than I do in their writers or producers. Think about it, HBO's casting has rarely failed. Even if the woman does in fact turn out to be Rachel McAdams, I'll give the show the benefit of the doubt.

The one thing I'm absolutely anxious about is whether or not they land T Bone Burnett to direct the second season's music as well.
