I just watched a CES interview with Palmer and he mentions that they haven't shown off the CV1 Kickstarter edition yet but that there "are some differences..."

Tuco, and any other DK1 owners in here, I need your advice. I guess it will depend on just how different this Kickstarter edition is going to be (color, logo, engraving, whatever) but they are only making 7k of them. I had thought there was an equally lower number of DK1's out there but I just looked and there are over 50,000 of them that were sold, so this new kickstarter CV1 edition will be the rarest one out there. My question is should I use the thing as a daily driver or should I just leave it in the box and pre-order a normal one? How valuable could this thing be someday?

I seriously doubt there will ever be much of a collector market for these things. They're probably going to be treated like almost every other piece of consumer electronics and lose nearly all value once the new versions are released.

I think they're pushing the whole "room" experience for the Vive a bit too much. There are going to be very few people who will be able to buy a Vive and have an entire room open to use as a holodeck. 90% of the people who buy are more than likely going to be using it seated, just like the Oculus.

The DK1, DK2 and the special kickstarter CV1s will never be valuable as collectors items.

The goofy preDK1 ones, the crescent bay prototypes and all the random CV1 prototypes may be valuable though. But only if OVR 'wins' the VR war.

Fair enough, I'll use it and not worry about people sweating all over it when they demo Eve Valkyrie.

Even seated I'd think the emphasis put into that would pay dividends, might be why they weren't having calibration issues w/ the Vive too for example.

What we've seen of the Vive is why I'm more than comfortable waiting until it's out before pulling the trigger on something. Hope to try them both out at some point too to judge between the screen door vs FOV stuff they observed and if that's mitigated at all by HTC by the time it hits production.

We have specialist stores in real high end malls that do that kind of stuff, think Shaper Image. Otherwise you are shit out of luck.

Trust me it's way over hyped, it is not what the writers claim it to be. I laugh at the people buying 2k PC's for the new Rift.

They literally say the same shit for every version that comes out. It's not ready yet. It needs another 5-10 years.

Just like with consoles, the content will drive VR. I'll wait and see. Augmented reality is way cooler to me.

I couldn't disagree with you more.

Isn't there something like 200 games available between Rift/Vive? Consoles don't see 50 at launch.
Define "game". There's plenty of gimmicky shovelware that is going to launch, but as for actual bonafied big release games? I think it'll be only Valkyrie for the Occulus launch, with some community made ports for stuff like GTA floating around.
