For those of you who are using a VPN, what are some good options these days? I think I did nord vpn a few years ago and I wasn't happy with it but I can't remember why. Checking if there are better alternatives out there these days.

torguard

you can try this promo code for 50% off
HALFOFFLIFE

i only use it to pirate, if i need a quick vpn i also use the extension

and click vpn on and it'll give me whatever country i need also

i'm just saying what my main purpose is for, cuz pirate vpns are more stringent than your basic nordvpn services

Some good talk in there about various VPNs. I have used proton for a year or so now, it works well.

While some VPNs can help secure your connection and protect you from ""spying"" by your ISP, it's important to remember that not all VPNs are created equal. I've tried several VPNs in the past and have found that some work better than others. A good VPN should be able to encrypt your connection and keep your online activity private. However, I still prefer proxies for more flexibility and control over my internet connection. Another thing you may consider to buy proxies for price tracking, as it can be a good way to avoid IP bans or blocks and access content that might be restricted to your location.

Which would you suggest?

If someone was to get a VPN in 2024 what is a current bare bones one that is actually worth its use?

After much research it appears some of them are a grift, or would/have easily flipped and sell or give peoples info.

a lot of the problems w/ the "good" vpn's is that eventually they get bought out, either b/c it's good to sell or the bigger vpn wants their servers or whatever, so the vpn that "was" good is now just like the rest of the other shitty vpn's

like look at kape, why the fuck are they gobbling up vpn's?

yea kape isn't the only one, the most popular vpn, nordvpn, yup theyre merging w/ surfshark and they have other smaller aquisitions

so then a paranoid dude will just go and get 1 or 3 vps's in different geo locations and just setup openvpn on em and of course paying w/ bitcoin

Ugh, hadn’t read about this. I’ve been using nord for 5 ish years.

Seems it’s a merger but Nord is the official parent.

I use PureVPN. I needed something for my Plex media server to stream remotely. I had switched to fiber Internet which is behind a CGNAT which screwed up Plex remote access. Anyway, PureVPN supports port forwarding, static IPs, and open VPN configurations. Performance is excellent. Can stream at pretty high settings remotely.

Depends on what you want to do. The expensive ones like NordVPN work with streaming apps like Netflix, Prime, and BBC.

Their are better, cheaper alternatives for other stuff (torrents & getting around ISP throttling). Such as Mullvad for 5 Euro a month (they do the conversion for you). Mullvad has supposedly been tested by warrants already and they flush their servers monthly. My ISP throttles Steam, and Mullvad works great for getting around that.

Here is a questionnaire sent to a bunch of VPNs by TorrentFreak to have them all answer various points:

I pay the $100 per year for the Proton Unlimited (24-month) plan. Email, VPN, 500 GB Online storage, etc. Been using their eco system for a while now and never had any issues.
