Karl Urban has flat out said Garland was the actual main director on Dredd as well - Karl Urban Claims Alex Garland Actually Directed ‘Dredd,’ Not Pete Travis - though this sounds more like main editor.

I read somewhere that Garland started directing because he didn't like how his stories were being changed
