I'm going back tomorrow to check things out. I'll try to get some pics of damage porn for you guys.

Good luck and be careful. My brother-in-law stayed and has been able to at least tear out the drywall on his 3 rental properties on the ocean side (in Key Colony). But without supplies - Home Depot in Marathon is apparently still not open - he can't get anything rebuilt yet.

He has 4 places total in the Keys - no insurance on any of them. Said it would cost him $20k each per year to insure, which sounds insane. Thankfully for him he's a pretty good guy with construction so he can do most of the rebuilding himself so financially it makes (some) sense. But if those insurance prices hold true across the Keys and a lot of people didn't bother with insurance ... just damn. That's a lot of folks who lost everything and no money coming in to rebuild.

200k property/40k personal items 1.75% up to 30 years FEMA loans. So they are not without option, just deeper in the poo debt. Most of those pads are 800-1200 sqft houses. Drywall for a 2 level one even is ~2k in material counting mud/tape and screws. Get some bleach spray for $20 including sprayer and landfills in Keys atm are FREE for residents. Get to hauling ass hanging and muddin.

Depot should be open now. Overseas Lumber is open on BPK and Summerland Hardware is open and has power. Not sure if either stocks drywall but they are getting 1-4 trucks of goods per day.

Given how scoured some of the islands have gotten with irma and now this I can only imagine tourism is going to take a huge hit for years to come to those destinations. I hope for the locals the recovery is faster than I am afraid it will be.
It might not. I mean there will be less places to stay, but that makes it bigger ticket often. The time to go is now! Fewer crowds!

Or it could assplode the market too.

Feel bad for Puerto Rico. They pretty much lucked out on Irma with Cat 1 or less winds and 2-4 inches of rain. This bitch though full Cat 5 through the middle now, 165 mph winds up to 25 inches of rain. It's going to be a damn disaster for 1-2 million of the 3.5 million population there.

175 mph 909mb, Lower than Irma. This one is a mega super beast. Fuck the Ocean, I really do like that 175mph storms are not even on the radar of my life.

The rippling waves outward from the center, just the immense energy of it all is pretty amazing. You can see different structures come into existence not too far from the eyewall.

PR is so fucked. Like Virgin islands except millions of people fucked. Wouldn't be shocked to see a high death toll in the thousands on this one.

Impact point and time for now.
Landfall is under 8 hours.( for hurricane force winds )
Looks that 80% of the land will suffer cat 2+ winds in PR.

PR lucked out if you can call it that. It was in the middle of making a much tighter and smaller eyewall as it reached the coast. The outer old eyewall is hitting land now, the new inner eyewall is still forming off shore. It knocked it down 20mph but still Cat5.
While it is going to rape half the island, it is also a bit more north than earlier speculated. Take all the destruction we see today and if it had been more south it would have been even worse had it been even 20-50 miles south.
They still pretty fucked though. To that extent, most of PR won't see the cat 5 winds, it'll be off shore to the north/north west. The downside is much housing in PR wouldn't fare any better in cat 2-3 winds.

edko edko why aren't you 50 miles ahead? I want my damage porn meow.
I doubt you'll get much though, much of the shit in the keys has been cleaned up except the random trailer/shit shack shop not having been attended too yet.

Journey onward.
I'm already sick of seeing facebook/twitter pleas from people begging for money in the Keys. Supplies are being given as needed, power is on for almost all those people and they are complaining about a weeks lost wages and without $100k they won't survive the month type bullshit. Most of them didn't even evac so they had no hotel/travel fees other than the poptarts and water and shit they bought to survive off of. I get it, it is a burden on everyone but that shit is annoying. I'm more likely to donate to someone who did evac and came back to damage than someone who sat around and ate cheetos.

Last I checked they voted for statehood. It's on Congress now to say Yay, or Nay. But they want it.

Yea they did the trick ballot thing though where the only two options are complete independence or statehood. Last time a large segment wanted status quo.

I "bet" next ballot when the only option is statehood there will be overwhelming support but a high number of abstained votes.

Puerto Rico is already financially wrecked and now it is getting hammered physically. At what point do you just throw up your arms and condemn the whole island, evict everyone, and start over?

Oh man and I hope they don't all huddle up on one side of the island. It might tip over and sink like Guam almost did!

Too bad they don't. We could give a whole lot of people a free vacation to one.
