144" of snow forecast in Chugach range. Been there just flying over in a float plane. Not a lot of people there, but that's a lot of snow.

Pic from nearby Valez pass some time ago.

I have never dealt with 12' at once, but with anything 4'+ in one go (The worst I ever dealt with was 7 feet in the span of five days and I was 15 years younger then), you have to keep up with it. Just non-stop shoveling/plowing to try and get ahead or keep up with the storm. Not to mention having to rake/shovel off the roof of any structures you do not want to collapse. It sucks and is exhausting.

I am sure they have some super heavy duty equipment for roads and there are special trains that can keep tracks clear, but yeah, a lot of man hours regardless.

They have special equipment really throws the snow out over the top. Also they have very huge industrial snow melters from the pics I've seen before. Like multiple trialers together with a team of several people to operate.

But guessing where they have 12' of snow they really aren't clearing roads. I've been in Chugach mountains in a float plane. Not a real metro area lol.

Another article mentioned the national guard getting involved, but later on in that same article they mentioned look like they storm was headed south toward Juneau.

In the sierra's where that happens almost yearly they do it with big ass snow blowers. The nice thing about driving down those roads afterwards is that if you slide off the road you just sort of thud into the snow and then back out and keep going.

Great. The lower 48 states are in a state of diminished snow falls and the tropical paradise island is going to get a foot.

I blame Covid.

Was looking at long range forecast. Til Christmas, they are predicting about 10 over the avg, 50's vs 40's. While last year it was about 10+ below average.

Last couple of days, been right at 70, compared to last year and avg of 48.

Guess there was a pretty severe tornado tonight. Hearing it's been going for over 150 miles so far.

Friend's parents live in Mayfield, KY I believe and had a boat knock out a wall.

Used to live in that area a decade ago and I fucking hated tornadoes.

Headline I saw said 50 dead. Of course that's going to be way off this early. Someone on another forum posted pics, candle store collapsed and his wife crawled out of it and walked a ways to find help. I think that's it below, candle factory/stores and the article said 100 people inside.

Mayfield, KY.
