I said it before, but I do agree that the easiest way around all of this was to just not bring ginger guy into the picture. The story would've made sense if it was just Asian guy behind it. He's empathetic towards the hosts, and maybe is even in love with Maeve, so he wants to help her. I could buy that, and all they'd have to do to make that plausible is if Asian guy just kept what he was doing with Maeve a secret from him and everyone else. But the second they brought ginger into it, the plot went full retard. He just has no believable reason to help her. If Maeve had dirt on him, he has the power to completely shut her off and wipe her memory. The entire season has had really solid writing so far. This episode just felt completely off; like it had an entirely new set of writers working on the show or something.

Also, not buying Asian guy being a host. He told Maeve he was human because he was born, which tells me he has memories of being a child and growing up. Now, obviously those memories could've just been implanted in him, but that would be pretty weak writing as well.

I suppose if they keep wiping her and she keeps remembering he could be afraid that there is no way short of destroying her completely he could get around her talking.

The writing can't all of a sudden just become this terrible... it makes no sense. The subtle nuances from the previous episodes make this one feel like a giant sledge hammer to the groin; I call bullshit, no one would blow it this bad, especially Nolan.

Maeve made it a point to kill herself in various ways to keep meeting with Felix (the Asian). She was given higher perception than usual so she understood carnal desires and stated she knew what they all did, and most likely Felix had slept with her or arranged for another coworker to sleep with her particular model so there's her leverage (this was stated in her chat). The ginger dude is #1 jealous #2 probably the aforementioned dude sleeping with Maeve (or another Host offline), so Maeve used that to her advantage. Yes, they probably could have bumped her intelligence to zero, so in retrospect I'm a little broken on that plot hole but her motives and why they're scared make sense. She's probably been in for repair a LOT more since the awakening. If Felix or ginger dude goes to their superiors they're all busted - remember Felix was only working on a bird, which would incriminate Felix as guilty of stealing/meddling with park technology but couldn't incriminate ginger dude from fucking the Hosts, that is until Maeve started arriving.

Idiot lab techs with inexplicable clearance, (who even point out they DON'T have clearance/access for changes like that, yet do it anyway...) isn't really more absurd then the base premise of giving robots identity, sapience, intelligence, allow them to feel pain, building a path to attain sentience , then putting them into a rape/murder simulator..

We don't know if it was lust, fear, or retardation that caused Felix and Sylvestor to willingly turn Maeve into a super robot and that is a huge problem for the show.

You can craft a very good "robot seduction" story, where the AI believably tricks the human into getting their way. Ex Machina (2015) did this with 1 hour 48 min run time. Westworld has 10 hours to convince us of the plausibility of the scenario and they shit the bed.

I know HBO isn't without their fuckups (True Detective s2), but I expected better from them. Maeve and the lab techs are ruining the show. Feelsbadman.

I think you guys are ignoring the Asian guy has a tinkerer's personality trait. He's clearly interested in the underlying technology that is driving the hosts. Any developer or wanna-be developer loves to open up black boxes (top shelf pun) and mess around to see what happens when you turn various knobs. I know that doesn't really explain whats going on the ginger dude but I don't think the Asian character is completely unbelievable.

This is what I've been trying to get lay out.

Maeve + Asian guy, could be a good arc.

But to have the threesome of fat white guy included, really fucks up the mojo, we don't need fat white guy.

White guy is going to push her to actually hurt/kill him. That'll be the big reveal that they can harm humans.

Those dudes aren't supposed to have any access, white guy managed to steal some admin credentials from somewhere to run his pimping operation - his ass is immediately fired if he gets found out, which is plausible reason for blackmail being effective.

'I might get fired' vs 'I might start the robo-apocalypse' is harder to buy, you have to be a special kind of dumb for that to sound like a good tradeoff.

Still. How will she tell on them? Let's assume that they are operating on the idea that robo-whores can't hurt people because they're hard coded to not be able to do that. Except Maeve has been tampered with.

The thing is, they still could've done that. Have the Asian guy plotline solo, like people in this thread have said. He's a tinkerer/romantic and fucks up by taking it too far. That's believable.

Then have the fat white guy come in after that has already taken place. "Woah, what the fuck did you do?" And then superhuman AI can kill him because he's a threat.

It was poor writing, there's really no way around it. There are dozens of plausible ways to have moved the story forward, and they took a lazy and/or poorly thought out one.

I think your reasoninig that these guys are assigned a set range of hosts to repair makes sense...

what seems a bit contrived to me is the timing of her waking up... how is it that she always appears to wake up at just the right moment, when it's just her and those two techs? not before, not after...
