Applied for a job today with the same staffing agency I'm waiting to hear back from, but for a local position so I wouldn't have to relocate. Got a call nearly immediately as is standard with this place. Wanted to know my story, etc.

Got referred to the guys manager, for a quick technical screen, and then got setup for an interview Monday morning. That was fast!

Driving into Boston sucks monkey dick. Entire day was on boarding stuff and orientation but one of the guys took me to lunch today and tomorrow team is taking me out to lunch. So far I like it.

Also not as big as Emc so not 7 million layers of management.

How bad is parking in Kendall? Did the company cover your garage at least? (Wife works over near Cambridge-side Galleria... so I tend to park there and walk 10 minutes to Kendall. Holy shit is that small sketchy.)

They gave us a discount, it's like $200/mo. My other option was public transit which surprisingly costs more.

Grats on the new job Noodle. If you want my advice, I'd try to learn their processes for doing things, what works and what doesn't; more than any particular how do I do X task. As a professional your job will be to adapt to new situations and learn and be able to apply the correct processes to a job. Learning the different ways different companies do things (and finding out which is more efficient in different situations and how to apply them) is much more valuable than "X years doing Y development task". So keep your eye on that stuff.

They probably write it off as a business expense
Which means they're still paying for the majority of the cost of the meal. Write offs aren't magic. Depending on their tax rates and how income is structured, they might be saving 25-40% of the cost.

I feel like I'm working for the government at this new place, I haven't even started my first day and I've had to take multiple personality tests/background checks/drug testing and about 15 consent waivers/benefits package/harassment things. Hopefully all that bureaucracy bullshit stops when I start working otherwise, I'm not gonna stick around long.
