My HVAC blower motor went out. It's under parts warranty but the local HVAC companies want $800 for the labor. I looked it up and it's something I could do myself in an hour. I called back to make sure they weren't charging me for parts and was told that's labor only and was a standard rate. Quick search online shows the typical labor cost is $200-$500....

Now I have to go see if I can find a replacement motor for less than their overpriced labor.

I don't understand why you're looking for a motor. Tell them to drop off the replacement and all the parts needed to install it. Don't hesitate to call them back if they shorted you even so much as a wire nut.

I already tried that, and they won't let me have the part. I took the blower out and apart last night to get the part number off it. New would cost me $800-1000 which doesn't work out. My only options at this point are buy a used one for $300 or find another company that isn't a rip off with labor. I've called three companies today. One said they can't give out labor prices, the other said labor costs depends on what the technician sees, the third quoted me $380 for the labor so I'll have them do it under warranty.

Oh it's a manufacturer's warranty? I thought you were tied to that one dirtbag company.

Unplanned 2 week unpaid vacation because my 3 year refresher training expired in November after I transfered here in the summer. They had me as expiring in 24, and suddenly went oops and realized it was 22. Kicker is last week they did a refresher here, so now my options were stay in a hotel this weekend to go to OKC 3 hours away and miss my friend coming from out of state and pray wife can handle all the animals, or an hour away in a couple weekends from now.
Lol and they fuck me even more, the time off was going to be nice to work on farm and prepare for out of state friend. Get called with 12 hours notice, they want me this weekend in training so I'll be free to help with open shifts sooner. So I get to get up at 3am to make it to office half a state over. Drive home that night, get saturday, but have to then again get up at 3am to return sunday/monday and stay at a hotel.

Friend able to move to the weekend after, but we'll have an abbreviated day before my overnight shift, and being gone for the overnight leaves a coming sub zero cold snap with my wife to deal with the animals.

I started working out in July last year and my legs are starting to get big enough to the point that my family jewels no longer have a nice comfortable resting place so now I think i'm going to have to switch from boxers to tightey whiteys... kind of rustled but also kind of proud of the progress?

WHERE THE FUCK HAVE YOU BEEN?

Like I said in the amod thread, I ragequit back when I was telling everyone covid wasn't going to end the world and someone pay 2 winned me into a 3day restriction to screenshots or something. The saltiness went away a long time ago but by then it wasn't a habit to come here daily any more and so I just sort of didn't, until the other week when I suddenly had an urge to pop back in.

I'm a tutor at university. Karen is handicapped so I travel to her house to private tutor.
While tutoring she has a livestream running, her camera is off and mic muted but we can easily hear them. She's a remote worker and on the clock somewhere. But so am I so she wants me to continue.. until she pulls out her cell and starts YouTubing the same stuff that I am teaching, she's not skipping commercials either, not jumping through Tuber's conversational tangents etc. I resist walking out, remember Bill Burr. I'm paid by the minute. So I sit back for a good 20 minutes, getting up and eating some of her foods, cracking her soda cans.

Fucking disgusting that pictures like this are taken, shared and on the front page of a news site. I don't care what the background is or who did it or approved it

Coming out of the supermarket and finding a shopping cart up against your door (with a scratch) and a dozen or so carts scattered within 50 feet of the cart return.

I know Aldi is low-rent (but I do kind of love the store!).

They have the right idea-- put a fucking quarter in to get your cart. Shit, Pathmark was doing it for decades.

F you lazy douchebags who let the carts roll into cars!

last trip to walmart, got a spot right near the front, was empty spot beside mine, with 4 carts in it. another 3 in the space across from me. the return stall was 2 spots over. 7 people were to lazy to walk around 1 car.

the fucking "leaf" routes in google maps, what the fuck is this supposed to be or represent? You would think, oh a leaf, this must be some hippy "green" route or something?, but nope. Ok, maybe it means the "scenic" route? Nope. No idea on earth what it is supposed to be or why the hell google defaults to these routes, and forces you to go in an choose the correct (alternate) route.

Now according to fucking google the green leaf represents saving gas, it says like "this route saves 6% gas" or whatever, but it sure as fuck doesn't.

I've had to drive Atlanta GA to MD and back a few times and every single fucking time it defaults to this green leaf route which takes some state highways through virginia instead of just staying on the interstate. This "green leaf" route is A: 1 hour longer (11+ hours vs 10 hours by taking I-85 then I-95), B: is about 30 miles longer, and C: has a fuckton of Tolls.

There is no conceivable scenario where this green leaf route saves gas.

I'm convinced that the state of Virginia is just paying google to default to this shitty ass route to collect money for these tolls. It's annoying as fuck that this is always the default route and I have to manually go in to the navigation and select an alternate route. Even more annoying is that the entire trip google keeps "suggesting" to switch to this shittier route. Seriously its constantly showing the grey (alternate) route, and constantly updating it, ie make a u-turn and back track 50 miles to take this shitty ass alternate route, adds 98 minutes to your trip, do you wanna switch to this route?

normally if there is an alternate route the moment you pass the turn or miss the exit or whatever google will update, if that route is now going to take longer (due to you having to back track) that grey, alternate route just disappears, it's no longer worth it. But with this bullshit green leaf route it stays there for hours. Literally showing that I have the option to turn around and drive 2 hours the wrong way to get on googles "preferred" green leaf route which was never, ever even close to being better than staying on the fucking highway.

I almost typed "option" but it is not optional, there is no way to filter out leafs like you can filter out toll routes, highway vs surface street, etc. But even with "avoid tolls" filter on, google still defaults to this green leaf route through Virginia. It's gotta be some fucking scam that the state is doing that google is in on. there is no other explanation.

Your tale rustled me enough that I looked it up. Summarizing this article, it doesn't just take into account distance and traffic, but even crap like fucking hills, under the assumption that if you have fewer hills you are saving gas. Sounds like bullshit to me as well. However, it says you can turn it off by unchecking the "Prefer fuel-efficient routes" option that defaults to on. Hopefully that helps. I know that if I ever see it, I'll be trying to turn it off immediately as well.

Had an interview last friday with a company. They dont do weekends and they give a week off for Christmas. But they work 50-60 hours a week. That surprised me but I did the pros and cons and figured I could take it so long as they didn't have me try to sell anything. "No we do all the sales. You just show up and fix the thing."

So I spent the weekend getting used to the idea of working my butt off. That's fine I got the time. Then they went with someone else. Whatever it's their business I can't be angry.

So I had a phone interview with a another plumbing company run by a lady who is friends with a lady at my church, and she says she pays off commission and has sales goals. I told her I didn't really want to be in sales, I had done something like that already. She told me the whole city operates like that and it's what you need to do to survive. I told her thank you and she said to sleep on it and call her tomorrow. Alright well I guess I will but my mind won't change.

I think I'm going to look in the small towns outside the city and find someone who isn't trying to build a fuckin' empire in the concrete jungle.
