I haven't jumped online. Do I need to do friend code bullshit or did they give a modern multiplayer experience with this console? Is it basically you hitting "Find Race" and being dropped in with 11 others?

yeah online racing is super easy and fun and pretty much 90% of what i play. pick international or regional lobby and matches you up asap, simple and easy. There are tourneys with custom setups run by big sites like neogaf or pennyarcade, just need a code to find and play them and they are really fun too. I think voice comm is disabled for regular racing (makes sense, kids) but enabled for code-tourneys.

From the Nintendo financial meeting going on right now, Mario Kart 8 has sold ~2 million copies to consumers in less than a month.

the Mario Kart 8 sales numbers are going to be insane for June, I know a ton of people who bought 3, 4, 8, etc copies as for a week you could actually MAKE money buying MK8. Buy at Target for $35 per copy (after amazon PM and $15 discount coupon), trade into Best Buy/Gamestop for $44, keep CN code worth $15-20 (or a free game). I bought 4 copies myself. A slightly worse deal still going on Target this week (buy 3 copies for $98, trade in all 3 for $95 and keep CN codes), most Targets have actually completely sold out of Mario Kart 8.
Its all win win for Nintendo though, they don't really lose a ton of money giving out free digital copies of Super Mario U/Pikmin 3/Zelda HD and its spurred quite a few people to go out and buy a Wii U, including a few just on these boards (me too).

You way, way overestimate people try harding the system for MK8. I'd be shocked if their influx accounted for even 10k units.

I'm kinda out of the fighting game loop, but I picked up Tekken for Wii U for cheap, and it's nifty.

If you are canadian go to a staples store asap they are apparently clearing out all wii u (and ps3, ps4, etc) hardware and games. people are getting donkey kong, 3d smb, etc for $20 or less. vita for $120.
but yeah donkey kong is a great game, the must have list is basically

lego city undercover (more of a kiddie GTA tbh, but its fun and wii exclusive)

So Kmart over here fucked up by offering the Basic + Skylander set in their catalogue for $179 but with a no-raincheck listing so for stores that had no stock they had to offer an alternative, that being the Mario Kart premium edition (retail of $429) thus I now own a Wii-U and have pretty much one question, since the Wii-U must-haves are listed......are there any Wii games that are still considered must-haves of can I just ignore that generation, that were't on ps4/360?

i wouldn't bother playing wii games on a wii u, unless you are super hard up for entertainment. the emulator the wii u runs only runs at 480p, so if your wii u is configured for 1080p it ends up stretching the screen and everything looks kinda fucked up and super jaggy. its something they SHOULD be able to eventually fix, but i don't have much faith
you can of course reconfigure your wii u to display at 480p and it'll fix it, but its a pain in the ass switching it back and forth everytime.
plus the wii u games pretty much all did away with the motion control shit so you can just play like a regular game with a pro controller or gamepad, most/all the wii games require you to use the gay motion controls
