I bought a Nintendo refurb and it came within a week. it DOES register on Club Nintendo, at least every single one I have read about does, and it qualifies for the Digital Deluxe Promo (10% cashback on all eShop buys). Mine was also brand new and had the Nintendo Land CN code in it too. You can buy a charger stand at ToysRUs or BestBuy on clearance for $3-6 or on amazon for $4 or so. Don't really need it, the box comes with a cable to charge the gamepad just not a stand.

The Amiibo thing I think isn't going to be as popular as nintendo thinks, while its cute and shit most people playing the Wii U seem to be nostalgic adults, not kids. Kids are growing up on Disney and Skylanders now, not Nintendo. No TV presence, no movie presence, no real online presence.

I assume they say it won't register for the Digital Deluxe is because eventually their refurb's won't be new stock sent back from retailers, and will be actual repaired Wii U's that had broken. Those units probably won't have the paperwork to register it for those promotions like new units.

So I ordered a pro controller when I bought the console, however they weren't dispatched at the same time and Ive been using the gamepad for a few days. I originally ordered the pro controller since the gamepad looked so big and unwieldy and I thought I couldn't possibly use it to good effect, however it's actually quite nice having the touchpad at my fingertips and isn't as uncomfortable as I first thought it would be. The pro controller is pretty pricey , almost as much as most games ... My question is for those of you who have used it, is it much of an upgrade over the gamepad? I am thinking of returning it but it has to be unopened for me to do so, so if I do decide to return it I won't be able to try it out first.

It's worth having one or two Pro controllers. They are high quality, comfortable, and have a ridiculous 80 hours of life on a full charge.

I agree that the gamepad is surprisingly nice and a lot more comfortable than it looks, but the pro controller is just a little bit more all-around perfect.

same as you skribble, i got my console first and then pro controller a day later. i really noticed the difference, the gamepad is nice but I find the screen very distracting although the whole thing sits well in the hand. The pro controller is just a little better, pretty much exactly like a 360 controller.

that said it is only a little better not like 2x better or anything, so if money is tight i'd say return it and spend the $50 on a game. the pro controller wont work on Wii games. its pretty shitty that it sells for $50 and is rarely on sale, if you have some toys r us around you may wanna go check them out they have 80% discounts on a ton of wii u accessories including controllers and chargers

target sale starting sunday

Between that sweet deal and the $200 refurb option, it is getting hard to hold off.

Yeah I do not see why if you have the code or even the SN from system why NOT to try and register it on Nintendo club, I was just passing the info from the site itself that I just noticed. Consoles register by their Serial number, or at least my 3dsXL did so I will give the WiiU a shot once it gets in, and also if the game has the number it would be even better- I have like 190 coins, and I have not registered MK8 yet... I guess I am just going to return my 2nd copy I got :p -I need to register the one I am keeping soon as to get my WindWaker download free!

The Nintendo Refurbs are basically new - only thing you don't get is the GamePad charger stand.

The Mario Kart 8 Bundle is a great value also but good luck finding one.
With target's deal actually the MK8 bundle was a bad deal- sans the wheel, but who uses that? 299$ for WiiU WindWaker or Mario/Luigi bundle 35$ for MK8 from target + code for Pikman/WindWaker/MiiParty/somethingiforgot = 334$ for 1 system and 3/4 games vs the Mk8 bundle that is 329

I don't believe the Target bundle comes with a WiiMote like the MK8 bundle also includes

Cheapest way to get a Wii U system and max out the first party games is still:

1. buy one atShop Subcategories | Nintendo Online Store

2. go to target on sunday, pickup 3 copies of MK8, price match it to amazon ($49), walk out with 3 copies for $97+tax. Open em all up, take out the club nintendo codes, trade 2 or 3 of the MK8s to Gamestop or Best Buy for $40-45 in gift cards/each.

3. Repeat if you want all 4 free games or have a friend who needs Wii U games

4. use the Gamestop/BestBuy GCs, try to get them to price match Targets B2G1 free deal, and buy the first party games that aren't part of the Mario Kart 8 promo. Or buy Wii U Pro controller and charge stand, motion controllers, etc. Can buy refurb motion controllers from nintendo store for $20.

Must have Wii U games
- Mario Kart 8
- Zelda Wind Waker (can get free with MK8 code)
- Pikmin 3 (same)

Nice to have
- Wonderful 101
- Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze
- LEGO City Undercover
- New Super Mario U/New Luigi U (free with MK8 code)
- Super Mario 3D World
- Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate

5. After you get your Wii U and register it online, be sure to go toDeluxe Digital Promotionand redeem your eShop cash vouchers. For each "free" games you will get 599 points or $5 in eShop cash, can put this towards Luigi U ($20) or whatever random Wii U game/DLC you want.

6. wait until July 1st to actually do all your club nintendo surveys since they rollover CN that day, you will hit platinum with the Wii U + 6+ games codes and post game surveys

7. after you have played all your games wait for Bayonetta and Super Smash Bros, then your Wii U is pretty much dead until Zelda i guess, time to sell it all

Spronk you are the damn king of deals, and I love it.

Too bad, I can't get over the same IP on 3DS and Wii U. No interest in playing Zelda on 3DS, and then having Zelda on Wii U even though I know they are different games. Feels like a waste of money, or double buying the same stuff.

I still enjoy the "old" target deal from Black Friday on the Wii U. I saved a lot doing that. Here's my list.

Wii U (Mario bundle) = $299.99
Wiimote U (2) = $39.99/ea
Nunchuk (2) = $19.99/ea

Total = $419.95 ($445.15 after tax)

I only paid $332.84, and this was buying it at Target.

I had a 20% off coupon for buying $75 worth of things on Black Friday.
We also bought (3) $100 target Gift Cards from ebay for $90/ea (another Black Friday deal).

$112.31 saved in total, just by leaving my house on Black Friday to get that 20% off coupon. Good shit.
I would have saved more if I also opened up a Target RED card at the time, but ended up opening one up a few weeks later when I bought my wife a 3DSxl as a Christmas present, back when Target had a great deal for that as well.

Why does Target keep having these deals, and Walmart doesn't do shit? F Walmart, the big Red is where it's at for video games.

Where is gamestop doing 45 for MK8, I walked in with my still sealed copy and was told 27 trade in for it... haven't done bestbuy. I didn't really consider the extra wiimote plus, I guess that's something the MK8 bundle has as an advantage.

I just called gamestop and bestbuy, MK8 used (open) trade-in is currently $28.00 so you will be better off not opening the MK8 unless you want the code for the free game.

Edit: Sounds like it doesn't matter if it is opened or not from Xadion.

It is still worth it for the free games, basically get MK8, 3 free games, and a $56 gc for $97.

Best Buy hastrade-in bonus this week, so you get $42 gift card there.

If you have their paid membership, you get 20% off new games, and 10% extra trade in bonus. So you can walk in and buy 4 copies of MK8 ($192+tax), take out the game codes, and trade in 3 copies (you'll get banned if you trade in more than 3 copies.) for $138 in GC. It might be a better deal than Target next week depending on next week's trade in value.

Last 3DS Zelda was a sequel to A Link to the Past. Wii U Zelda is going to be open world ala Skyrim, not really the same game.
