Engineer looked kinda cool! I'm usually a knight or evil Mage type guy but that might get me to try the game even sans friend.

Funny... I thought the world looked a little dated. Draw distance felt super short too.
Have not played with my key yet (was downloading the client last night) but when I played in the stress tests I definitely did not experience this. There are a lot of 'jump puzzle' climb to the top of the world type achievements and generally, as long as you had a machine that could handle it, you could see pretty much forever. Maybe it is driven by graphics settings?

The key is independent of the email you applied from. I forgot what my password was to the email that got in and rather than deal with resets, just set up a new one and applied the code I received with no issues, so 'trading' keys should not be a problem at all.

Onoes, my awesome/funny post is more of a story from when I briefly played EQ back in the days right after launch.

I was a barbarian warrior with no guild playing around with this "new" MMO thing. Around

level 20 I went to Highpass Hold and heard about the most amazing weapon for warriors called the Polished Granite Tomahawk. It was the first weapon that I had heard of that had a beneficial effect and was soloable; all it took was the patience to camp the gnoll spawns for the named to appear.

I camped those gnolls for around 30 hours over a few days (which seemed like forever to me) and finally decided to log off for the night and just move on without the famed PGT. The next afternoon I logged in and who was standing in front of me but Grenix Mucktail, the keeper of the axe. I immediately engaged and at about 75% health a few more people jumped in the fight. When he went down and started the telltale EQ sparkle that meant I got to loot I typed "FUCK YEA" in general chat and looted my precious weapon. I had done it!

About 5 seconds later I started getting blasted by PMs from about 20 different people. Apparently a rather large guild was camping the gnolls to get one of thier new warriors the axe and had been at it for around 12 hours straight. They were not happy that I had gotten the kill and to make matters worse I had missed a letter in my general chat exclamation and instead it read "FUCK YA." The guild leader PM'd me that such disrespect was not looked upon kindly and that their new goal was to make my experience a living hell.

I tried to explain my side, but they were having none of it. For three days their level 60 members followed me around stealing my mob kills and training enemies to me. I thought I'd never be able to enjoy the game again. On the fourth day I went into Qeynos and PM'd the guild leader that if he called his guys off that I would give the PGT to that warrior in person. They agreed and I started the trek to Highpass Hold for the exchange.

Making that trip was hard. I was angry that I had to give up this magical loot that I'd worked so hard for; but it was either that or seemingly never get to enjoy EQ again. I briefly considered just not handing it over and starting a new character, but it just seemed wrong to do that to this asshole guild flexing their roster muscle.

I zone into Highpass Hold and was about to message them that I've arrived when I get a PM from the raid leader. He says that they just had two Grenix Mucktail spawns in the last 10 minutes and that they don't need my PGT anymore. He says to keep it but not to ever disrespect his guild ever again. It was the best message I'd ever recieved in my short MMO life. I don't think I'd be playing MMO's now if I would have had to give up my hard won loot or had a guild harass me until I quit playing.

Hopefully this was completely boring.

Hmm, I had a very different thought on the draw distance. I had to tweak it down to minimum to get it to run half decently on my aging PC, and I thought it was still pretty generous, generous enough that I didn't really notice. Perhaps I am just accustomed to playing with shitty draw distances, though.

My thoughts on how the world looked was space WoW with thinner, bustier females. And more wavy grass.

It will be interesting to see where they place their launch date now with ESO showing their hand and choosing April 4th, 2014.

I don't know that ESO is really a threat to anyone.

Might be a sleeper hit, always possible, but my money is on ESO making Rift look inspired.

I think the only threat is in box sells and the initial free month of service. After that, everyone will realize how poorly ESO was designed.

While not fantastic, I chuckled, and my coworker said "Hey, you laughed, that counts".

So, check your messages, and enjoy! ^_^

I watched that while taking a shit like 5 hours ago and forgot to post it. Though my bathroom experience was much improved because of it.

The class made me forget all about the shit so that is one point for Engineer.

Has any other game done a ranged tank properly and not just on some gimmicky boss fight? I know SWTOR had them but I never raided.

Well shit. I just created the account and entered the key; but now the installer won't install the damn game. It just hangs for a second and takes me to the login screen where it tells me that a patch has failed.

Edit: I just watched the Engineer video. Who the fuck doesn't want a ranged DPS and tank class rolled into one? Engineer gear is the new Hunter gear.

So suddenly having a month plus of free time and no games I'm currently playing (and terrible luck getting into betas), could anyone tell me if this game is worth dropping around $200 for a beta key? Obviously this is a lot of money but I figure if it keeps me entertained for a month or two it might be worth it.
